SLAF fighter jets made precision air strikes at a well identified LTTE hideout located in the jungles South of Puthukudiyirippu, Mullaittivu, today (Jan 12) at around 6p.m.
According to Air Force Spokesperson, Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara, the air raids were conducted targeting a key LTTE hideout believed frequented by the LTTE leader. With ground troops closing-in on the last LTTE bastions at Puthukkudiyirippu and Mullaittivu, LTTE terror chief Prabakaran is running short of safe houses and escape routes, defence sources said.
The sources referring to the latest SLAF air strikes said that, the target was located in a thick canopy area at Venavil, one of the remaining hideouts of Prabakaran, who is kept in toes due to the multi-pronged air and ground assaults. LTTE communication is experiencing a standdown since the time of attack the sources said adding that, this is similar to the reaction shown by the outfit, when Tamilchelvan was killed.
