President Rajapkse instructs the relevant authorities to grant the government s three-wheeler petrol subsidy through Samurdhi Banks. He issued these instructions at a meeting with representatives of the All Ceylon Three Wheeler Associations at Temple Trees today..
The Government will incur an expenditure of 6 billion rupees on this petrol subsidy. Thanking the Government for extending this relief, a group of representatives called on the President to utilize these funds for the wellbeing of families of soldiers engaged in operations in the North. But the President said his aim was not to retake any subsidy granted to civilians. Those willing to do so can direct them for welfare of Ranaviru families. The President also instructed the officials to immediately draw up a programme to convert three wheelers running on petrol into gas. He told the officers to look into the possibility of importing meters for three-wheelers sans taxes. Referring to the special gazette notification issued on the 11th of November, the President agreed to suspend the laws related to trishaws transporting passengers within the Western Province, until further discussions are held. Ministers A.H.M. Fowzie, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Bandula Gunawardena, Lasantha Alagiiyawanna and S.M.Chandrasena, Western Province Chief Minister Reginold Cooray, President s Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, and Finance Secretary Sumith Abeysinghe were present.

| Giving subsidy is not fair and discriminating and attract malpractice and corruption.Right thing to do is to bring down the price for all to benefit and to do otherwise is to create a divided nation. |

Now we had a war against the race of the people.
The world had a war against the color of the skin.
Even before Sri lankans and Indians are famous to stage war against the cast.
MR will create a new era, a war against the Poor and rich, by iltreating a team. |

| What is the meaning of Subsidy? Doesn't it mean a reduction in cost of a item by a grant by the government? What is happening here is that the petrol costs the Government after all expense only Rs 46/- per liter but they sell it at Rs 120/- for motorist and want to sell it at Rs100/- for three wheelers subject to several conditions. How can it be called subsidy then? It is really a slight reduction in TAXES not subsidy. If it is subsidy Government can't make a profit out of it! |

What is the meaning of Subsidy?
In Sri Lanka it seems to mean 'if the price of something is reduced by the government for a section of the community then it is a subsidy'. It does not take into regard the cost the govt incurs or the world market prices or any other criteria.
That way at least a section of the people are happy that they are getting something cheaper than most others!
This is a society which clapped and applauded SB Dissanayaka when he was a minister in the PA govt when he said that the UNP gave the house maids only Rs.85 for a US dollar but now their PA govt was giving them Rs.100!

Yeah I remember that. He said that at a election rally in Gampola. The sad part is they got elected again!! In any other country they would have been shown the door just for that statement.

Well, Few more stages has to pass through before the real prize reduction.
Parliament committee has been appointed to investigate and make recommendation.
Approval of the sub-committee,
Cabinet approval,
Fowzies's personal observations,
and also 'Konduru oil hath pattayak! '.
Until such time the black marketing earned money will be kept in a safe house of Mervin's to look after.

Argunment about Subsidary is very valid and true.
Once a black leader been told to the white people something like below when they told the black leader that they now are treated well.
Once a person is nabbed with a knife, and when you are pulling out the knife you are not doing a good thing to him, cause you are the same who nabbed him, and the wound is made by you and you cannot do any thing to heal it. So don't say you are doing something good by removing the knife.
Similarly, government imposed 230% tax on fuel and now they saying they are reducing the price and giving subsidary. LMASO |

I think this Petrol Subsidiary is given only to the three wheelers that have installed meters in them... if not they are not given it....
hanking the Government for extending this relief, a group of representatives called on the President to utilize these funds for the wellbeing of families of soldiers engaged in operations in the North.
this is also a good idea... these families need maximum benefits.. I think the GOSL should take steps to make sure they get these kind of benefits.. |

Petrol subsidy for three wheelers in Sri Lanka
This solution is going to be messy. It will open up corruption, favourations to certain people etc..
Bad decision. |
