After a long silence, I got bit of news. Celltel Mobile phones are working in Vishwamadu. LTTE has banned using phones and Radio/TV at all, but eager people are clandestinely using them to contact relatives to report the situation and ask for help.
Recently, a large vehicle convoy has passed South West of Vishawamadu area. It has had two captured Army Buffels, fully camouflaged with branches and treetop matter. There have been over 400 LTTE cadres providing security. People are in the opinion that it was Prabhakaran who travelled. Once the convoy has passed, many explosions have been heard from South side of Vishawamadu, and it is believed that LTTE has blasted the small bridges and sewer ducts along the roads leading to Vishwamadu.
On the other hand, all the refugees have been asked to camp in jungle areas. As they have always done, bigger and better food rations have been given to Maveer and LTTE families. Nevertheless, in order to receive food (government sent) other than very old people, people have to do all the LTTE hard labour.
LTTE has appointed their agents for every 500 families, and people have to report their activities they did for LTTE to get the rations from them. For even small matters LTTE has been severly-beating civilians. People fear that more than 1000 civilians who rebelled against LTTE were executed in the past three months, as they have been taken away by LTTE and not returned to their families.
As reported, whole area is like a concentration camp of LTTE, because the civilians has to do nothing else, but follow orders of LTTE and do LTTE work for food. No sick or elderly being cared by Government Nurses or Dr, because many of the houses and resources have been used to treat LTTE men and women. Two Doctors have been assigned to look after civilians, but they also have been dragged most of times to treat LTTE men and women, leaving sick Children, Elderly etc to be looked after only by their relatives. People are very helpless and are under the tight boot of LTTE. LTTE has almost vacated Mullative, and people believe that the final battle would be in South East of Viswamadu, as it is where Prabhakaran believed to be hiding. Despite LTTE warnings, people are making daring attempts to leave the area and they want government to instruct them what to do through leaflets dropped from air.

There has been a man from Killinochchi suburbs. He has lost his wife to Cancer, and he has brought up three kids with every difficulty imaginable by being a daily waged laborer.
LTTE has taken all three kids in three occasions, and all of them have been killed in fighting. Two few years back, and another one very recently. This man has gone semi mad for some time owing to isolation.
Recently, he has refused LTTE commands to dig bunkers in lieu of food asking them to give his kids back.. and has become so upset owing to hunger and deprivation, and has gone mad shouting 'death to Prabhakaran'.
It has been only less than half an hour, and two LTTE men have come, one being a senior leader and shot this man on the head on the spot while all his relatives and fellow IDPs were watching helpless.
They also have kicked a Maveer woman on the stomach who has tried to rescue him.
They say every IDP area is infested with LTTE intelligence agents, and everything about IDPs are reported to their hierarchy.
People are very scared of LTTE and wants to get out from their clutches at the first opportunity.

Nettapoman,
I am not good at English. However I take that as a learning exercise and read
You have the basic requirement in any good communication - faith in the subject and/or issue. The rest is mere style. It's like one memory through many outer senses. Thank you for connecting to the core of my work.
dont know what real mpacts your letter makes. But one thing is sure. You teach us two thing..
(1) Professional writing skills
Thank you. That is due to my formal education in Catholic Schools, my family and most of all my professional elders from whom I learnt with faith. Some are white Australians.
(2) How to put our case regardless of what oposite thinks.
Yes. This is important at policy level. As Krishna says in Geetha, you are the two sides. You publish and others identify as per their own investment.
Being honest ourself and standing for our thoughts and belief. If I am not wrong may I call you a lady Ghandi. Isnt that all Ghandi taught us!
Yes, Nettapoman - you are a genuine believer in Gandhi. Hence your identification. It is about being independent and respecting others independence. No enforcement whatsoever.
In spiritual terms - we as individuals are left with those we bring into ourselves. Our memory is our companion and we see this memory through various forms. If therefore we cannot find a good form on the outside, it's best to give it our form.
Nettapoman,
Today is Vaikunda Ekadasi. I was feeling down this morning and I was saying to my husband that I must dwell more in God and said that Gandhi said that there were times when he felt really down and would always find some solace in Geetha.
You communicating with me through Gandhi has helped me heaps. YOu have confirmed that I am not alone. That is the power of real work Nettapoman. Thank you deeply and may God Bless you and your loved ones with much happiness and peace.
Thank you for honouring me by saying Lady Gandhi. It feels better than any Nobel Prize I might have earned
I may be wrong. If so parden me. And also keep writing. There are lot people benifitted by this.
There are no rights and wrongs for faith expressions. They are prefect in their belief.
I am happy that you recognize benefit in this - especially in terms of communication skills. That is part of my work outside this forum also. I tutor management students through email.
Today, I plan on first going to the University to sort out some details regarding student visas for Sri Lankan students especially from North and East and then I propose to write to the Minister regarding deficiencies in their visa system. Will share that with you in due course.
Thank you deeply Nettapoman. My feelings have lifted after your communication. From the bottom of my heart - I want you to be happy
love
Gaja Aunty

| Nettapoman has something far powerful than the intellectual ability - even though he himself has the latter. Nettapoman is able to believe in Gandhi and that empowers him more than any intellectual ability can. |

Army takes Kilaly and Muhamalai as Tigers withdraw to Puthukkaadu junction
Jan 7 (TC) The Sri Lankan armed forces scored two more significant successes when troops belonging to 53 division captured the Kilaly and Muhamaalai areas by Tuesday January 6th evening. After offering token resistance the LTTE withdrew from entrenched positions in both these areas to the south and south eastern region of the peninsula. The LTTE has now retreated to a third defence line set up along the Puthukkaddu junction along the A 9.

Slap on the face of LTTE die-asspora- Canada does not need them - National post
As it becomes harder for the Tigers to operate in Sri Lanka, their next logical move is to seek refuge abroad -- especially in Canada. There is certainly plenty of support for the Tigers among many of the Tamils living in Ontario's urban centers. It would come as no surprise if defeated LTTE leaders tried to set up base here until they can regroup in Sri Lanka. In the past, Tiger lieutenants have come to Canada as refugee claimants. No doubt, they will try that trick again.
We don't need such brutal people spreading their hate in Canada, and leaning on Tamil-Canadians to provide shelter or cash. Mr. Harper already has done the right thing by declaring the LTTE a terrorist organization. As the group's leaders flee their failing insurrection, the Prime Minister should make certain that Kilinochchi's erstwhile governors do not end up in Toronto, Scarborough or Markham.
