Bassa,
At least one of these runway can be used to develop a thriving tourism industry in the Mullaithevu area. It could also help fisheries by using it to air-freight those expensive lobsters and giant shrimps caught in the Mannar area. From Passikuda above Batticaloa to areas north of Mullaithevu, there is a great potential to develop eco-tourism while at the same time bringing the fisheries industry to the 21st Century standards. The maritime capability of the Sea Tiger can also be retained and expanded to build fishing vessels, coast guard patrol boats and specialty boats/ships for foreign vacationers. A lot of 'if and then' scenarios here.
If peace is restored, backed by a solid political settlement, I might pack up my bags and join others to help develop not just the North, but the whole of Sri Lanka. Who wants to keep facing this winter weather again and again?
Gonnamba,
I sent you a brief reply. More later.

Baks,
The LTTE governed ruthlessly, making a mockery of its claim to be a group of honourable freedom fighters seeking justice for the island nation's Tamil minority. To raise funds, the Tigers diverted relief cash earmarked for victims of the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami, and captured relief supplies for resale on the black market.

Yarlan:
the opportunites are immense and they have always been there....SL could have very easily been another Singapore, another asian tiger...
what we need now is the political and social will to advance these opportunities for the good of the country and the people like you, who are willing to invest their money and knowledge in such endeavours....and i would add that today, knowledge is more important than financial capital...
As usual, you make sense.... |

Security forces continuing multi-frontal assaults at remaining LTTE fortification at Wanni and North are now gaining rapid tactical advantage leaving LTTE to near extinction, security sources said. The ground confrontations are intense and fought at a rapid phase which has left the well fortified LTTE defences crumbling and its leadership stunned, defence observers said.
write down the word boys, extinction
what a finale its going to be! |
