LTTE may be down but not out. As long as the Tamils are with the LTTE, NO one can defeat them. :))

Ethnic SL Tamil diaspora has enormous financial and political clout it is numerous in crucial Western countries. And they can provide the muscle to the LTTE for decades irrespective of the outcome of today's military campaign.

If the diaspora is to be checkmated and LTTE is to be given a knockout blow, MR, as President Mahinda Rajapaksa is addressed by his close circle, should look into the causes of anger of the Tamils with the Sinhala state with a sense of urgency and commitment. Rhetoric offers no solution. Certainly not banking on State created quislings like TMVP who have neither the reach nor vision.

dauntless

from the horsee mouth

He said that the 59 Division had breached the LTTE built earth bund ahead of Mullaitivu Friday afternoon and was now positioned just 5 kilometres south of Mullaitivu and were approaching an LTTE air strip, believed to be the largest built in the Vanni region, situated in the Mulliyawalai area.

Responding to queries, he said that the battle-field victories were won at a heavy price. 'My officers and men fought courageously against tremendous odds,' he said, adding that of the 16,000 men wounded in action, 12,000 received shrapnel injuries due to heavy mortar and artillery fire.

The LTTE couldn't have fired what he called ''a rain of mortar and artillery'' without having a steady supply of ammunition through its overseas networks. Had the enemy been denied supplies, the army's losses would have been much less, he asserted.

Addressing a gathering of ministers and officials at the Presidential Secretariat Friday afternoon, Fonseka said that the LTTE had been holed up in an area 40 by 40 kilometres or in other words 1,600 square kilometres east of the A9. But the area included some lagoons and the actual LTTE deployment was much less, he said.

The tough talking Fonseka who had repeatedly vowed to finish off the Tigers before he leaves his office told The Sunday Island that the army had proved its capability. He said that their war of attrition had handsomely paid off. He explained that territorial gains were made after the LTTE lost hundreds of cadres in operations conducted on the Vanni front since early 2007.

Troops yesterday seized the town of Thamilamadam to the south of Elephant Pass and have commenced their forward march, according to a statement on the army s Web site.

good move SLDF... capturing EP will add insult to injury to the LTTE Terrorists.. also lets not forget the importance of capturing EP.. which will be a vital blow for the tigers.. I hope the SLDF this time around will manage to build up defensive lines in EP so it wont be over run like before..

Tigerforce:

I agree that LTTE managed to withdraw many times during recent battles. For a small force, it is not a big deal to withdraw without getting caught because their equipment and manpower is limited. However, their options are getting limited with every defeat. Ocean is the only destination for the next withdrawal.

Only battle they won is the one against the killi water tower. That I admit LTTE won with flying colors. LMAO.
