Tamil Nadu chief minister Muttuvel Karunanidhi`s daughter and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham (DMK) Rajya Sabha (Upper house) member of parliament Ms. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi has expressed grave concern over the Sri Lankan armed forces capturing Kilinochci in the Northern province of Sri Lanka.
`What we were hoping would never happen has actually happened` she said while speaking at a book release ceremony in Chennai where a collection of her father`s speeches relating to Tamil Nadu poet laureate Vairamuttu .
Speaking at the same function the poet Vairamuttu said that news about the fall of Kilinochchi reached him it was as if a thunderbolt had fallen on his head.
Expressing concern over the fall of Kilinochchi to the Sri Lankan Army, poet Kanimozhi, MP, on Friday Jan 2nd 2009 said Tamils were gradually being wiped out in the island nation.
What we were hoping would not take place has actually happened, she said while addressing a function organised to release Enn Thambi Vairamuthu a collection of speeches made by Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi about lyricist Vairamuthu on various occasions.
Ms. Kanimohzi said: We are in pursuit of other things when an uncertain future is staring at our brothers and sisters.
Citing a few lines from Mr. Vairamuthu s poem, she said, There was no point in living on the past glory without raising our voice against the genocide of Tamils.
She urged the Tamils in the State to rise in support of the Sri Lankan Tamil brethren with whom we have umbilical ties.
Mr Vairamuthu said if the Chief Minister had generously showered his praise and affection on him it went to show his self-confidence.
A person with enormous self-confidence alone can generously praise another. He expects me to show similar affection to the younger generation, he added.
The head of the Kunrakudi Mutt Ponnambala Adigal released the book and Ms. Kanimozhi received the first copy. Former vice-chancellor of Tamil university Avvai Natarajan, DMK MP Tiruchi Siva and the special representative of the Tamil Nadu Government at Delhi, Kambam P. Selvendran spoke.

| To the mainstream Tamils in TN and world-wide SLA occupying a Thoppigala, a Pooneryn and now a Kilinochchi emptied of civilians and resistance combatants does not make any difference to the determined six decades long Tamil cause. The foul mouthed Fonseka (who called Indian leaders 'clowns') describes Kilinochchi a fortresses. Pathologically SL leaders stories are always spiced up more so to sparkle up SLA's battle field stories. These explain the euphoria amongst the Buddhist/Sinhala masses unaware of the costs of combatant lives lost. Fonseka's has a record of sacrificing SLA combatants in massive numbers in the several battles that he was involved in the 1990's. The actual SLA casualties in the past couple of months will not be any different. In any case the Tamils have to accept that there were setbacks for the Tamils recently. Congress-Delhi will pay a price for its betrayal of TN Tamilians in Thirumangalam and the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. History is about to repeat itself. Destiny is that a new generation of Tamilian leaders are emerging in TN who will tame SL and its armed forces to protect the lives of the SL Tamils as it did in the past in the Chola, Pandya and Chera years. The SL Tamils have to show eternal gratitude to such a leadership to face the hostile genocidal Buddhist-Sinhala leadership. |

| Why in the history of Dravidian Party, no senior leaders one from the party didn't visit Srilanka ever to meet the tamils for their welfare? I don't find the politicians of Tamilnadu interested in Tamils from Srilanka except to gain money and political advantage using their name. |
