Thesavalamai is the traditional law of the Sri Lankan Tamil inhabitants Jaffna peninsula, codified by the Dutch during their colonial rule in 1707.

Hi guys,

Talking about minds, here is what sk says under the previous thread 'Sri Lankan army enters Paranthan':

I am amazed by your knowledge and intellect and would like to urge you to continue your contributions to the forum. Where possible, you should direct the other members to your writings. For instance, a new thread has started and all are going to that thread. May be you might want to direct their attention to your last few posts here.

I have taken sk's advice.

Recently I made a comment about the 'peasants doing all the fighting while the landlords have skipped town.' I was not joking.

Except for the original Vanni residents, a sizable number of people currently on the run in Vanni are refugees from the Jaffna Peninsula who left in 1995 (either on their own will or coerced into doing so). Similarly, many of the owners of houses and land (farms, small coconut estates, etc.) in the Jaffna Peninsula are either in foreign countries or in the south of the country. Many of their houses are now occupied by refugees from within the peninsular and from the mainland (especially the Vanni area).
