Doctors in Sri Lanka are planning to launch an island wide protest over a shooting incident of a female doctor in Hambantota last night.
Government Medical Officers Association`s (GMOA) spokesman Dr. Upul Gunasekara said that the members of the GMOA are scheduled to meet next Thursday to decide on further actions regarding this protest.
According to Dr. Gunasekara, doctors in Hambanthota District have already begun a protest campaign on the incident.
Dr. W.D. Lakshmi was shot dead last night at her personnel dispensary in Bandagiriya, Hambanthota.
Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekara said a soldier attached to the Udawalawe camp has allegedly shot the doctor due to a personal reason between the victim and the suspected soldier.

Yes, if the problem is personal, why the protest? for what? if the police knows the person who did it they will arest him. and the required will be done by the law. What are these doctors trying to prove and do by protesting?
Docs are always for a protest or for strike. What's wrong with them? |

Aren't the Doctors applying unnecessary pressure? One can understand if the Authorities are deliberately soft-pedaling the issue. It is just a few hours since the murder and the Doctors want to paralyse the county's Health services patronised largely by the poor.
Not done, Doctors, not done. Please have a little patience and give some time to the Police to act. |

Simply, Doctors are waiting for a reason to strike. Now they can do private practicing and have some fun time at home, while grabbing the poors blood and money. I'm sure this conflict will be in the market for more than a year.
1. Did Doctors ever strike when a doctor raped a patient in Negambo hospital asking to do the justice for him?
2. When the Blood bank director was covering the issue of expired plasma case, any union in Medical sector made any pressure on any form to rapid the investigation or to do the investigation impartially?
3. When patients are dead due to the ignorance or not attended due to the Private practicing, have any of these doctors asked to find out the reasons?
Shame on you Doctors, you learned from the poor peoples taxes?
You are earning from the poor people?
You are enjoying the poor peoples last moment. |

Law is not impartial in Sri Lanka. Unless agitate Police favour to GOSL supporters in fear of their survival.
Look, Kudu Lal and Mervin are devil dancing but nobody dare touch them! So this is the only alternative path for survival of people like us!!!
Only thing we request is an impartial inquiry. |

OK, let's say the doctors are requesting the stern action, an impartial inquiry... for a moment.
What about this kind of a strike rather than a general strike... Do you think they have a spine, or guts, or personality or non greediness to do this.
'All doctors are going for a strike, not to treat the politicians and Police people until the justice is done for Miss W.D. Lakshmi'
What do you think? can they do this? so the general public is not effected, but the Police and Politicians are caught on their neck to take actions.
I bet my life, Doctors want do that, cause they only need a break, not the justice for their fellow member. |

Lankaputha I will answer you but at the end don't assassinate me as magha did ! In that case I go disappear.
Just for the sake of the argument will assume that you have a son and a daughter.
Your son raped a girl and come home. What you do? Find the best solicitor in the market and make every attempt to prove of his innocence.
Say your daughter raped by a stranger. You and all the family shake all the big pillars until your grievances heard. You very well know that police take a bribe from the other party and try to cover up the issue.
So I request you to consider your statement again. It is not politic but our culture.

No Arguments, If it is a blood relationship, that may be the way the culture leads us to do that.
But remember, there are plenty of cases where, father or mother gave the tip to the police about the rapists (their sons) so, fully educated people like doctors, trying to hide their non blood relations cannot be simply justify.
And still no one knows or says what steps have been omitted by Police to pressure them using a strike. Don't you think ? |

Gchula99,
What you say is right, but this person has been killed to a personal reason and not due to dispute of an official matter. Of course the DR. Lakshmi's familly will deal with it, with the authorities. Have yiu ever seen Doctors strike cos there are bad doctors or there are doctors do aborstions for large sums of money? or have you seen Doctors strike when they have given wrong medicine?
So, there are lot of if's and buts when it comes to how the good doctors behave. |
