Two Tiger Boats Confirmed Destroyed with Eight Terrorists Aboard

JAFFNA: AT LEAST eight Tiger terrorists aboard two Sea Tiger boats moving in the seas off KALMUNAI point in POONERYN area were feared killed Monday (29) night when the Special Boat Squadron of the Sri Lanka Navy spotted them and directed fire attack while the boats were moving around 11.00 p.m. at high speed.

Sailors maintain that both boats were engulfed in fire following naval attacks that reduced the boats to ashes. It is believed all terrorists on the boats have either perished or drowned in the seas, unable to face the naval fire.

Troops March Forward Sacrificing Their Lives

WANNI: AS the fourth Eelam war was entering a decisive phase with KILINOCHCHI almost in sight, pitched confrontations in the WELIOYA sector under 59 Division, Task Force I and Task Force II troops in KILINOCHCHI and north of VAVUNIYA continued for another day on Monday (29) bringing further losses to the enemy.

During these clashes, troops smashed six bunkers and a few bunker lines in PALAMODDAI, AKKARAYANKULAM, ANDANKULAM and KARIYALAMODDAI areas. Troops also after those clashes found one dead Tiger terrorist, two T-56 weapon, ten hand grenades, 1700 T-56 ammunition rounds, 100 Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) rounds, two claymore mines, two MPMG links, twelve field dressings, two terrorist uniforms and several food items.

At least thirty-nine Tiger terrorists lost their lives, unable to face the fire-power of the troops during those clashes. Fifty-two more Tigers suffered injuries in the fighting that occurred in above areas.

Five soldiers including one officer made the supreme sacrifice during clashes at VANNARIKULAM and ANDANKULAM on Monday (29). Nineteen brave soldiers injured in the fighting were evacuated to hospitals.

Meanwhile, troops serving PALAUTTU in the eastern port city of TRINCOMALEE found one T-56 weapon from the St. Lurdu church graveyard on Monday (29).

Troops Locate Terrorists Clandestine Airstrip A Major Breakthrough

MULLAITTIVU: 57 DIVISION troops, now dominating north of VANNIVILANKULAM located an LTTE airstrip this afternoon (30) from the general area of PANIKKANKULAM, about 7 km north-west of MANKULAM and about 500 m to the west of A-9 road when the troops brought the area under their control.

The location of this 500 m long airstrip, believed to have been perhaps used by terrorists for landing of their light aircraft in any emergency, struck a major blow to their escalation of terrorist acts. It is also believed the airstrip could have also been used as an open parking space or a hangar, in a way.

Murikandy Terrorists Felled

WANNI: TROOPS operating in the general area west of KOKAVIL observed a terrorist movement, closer to captured MURIKANDY Railway Station this morning (30) and fired at them using small arms. The troops confirmed that three terrorists were killed.

Lorry in Food Convoy Offers C-4 Explosives

OMANTHAI: A METICULOUSLY planned clandestine operation of losing Tiger terrorists was once again exposed this evening (30) at about 3.30 p.m. at the OMANTHAI cross-loading point when one of the lorries, hired by VAVUNIYA District Secretary for transport of essentials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), had 2.5 kg of C-4 explosives in its driver s possession.

Initial investigations revealed that the lorry driver, an apparent suspected proxy to the terrorists had kept those explosives, meticulously concealed amidst food stocks that were to make for un-cleared areas as part of a convoy of thirty lorries, hired by the VAVUNIYA District Secretariat.

A total convoy of sixty lorries with essentials are expected to cross the OMANTHAI gateway by Thursday (2) evening, following an understanding that has been made between the Government and World Food Programme (WFP). Thirty lorries of the total fleet have been hired by the WFP.

The lorry driver in question during interrogations after detection has admitted to concealing the explosives, but the Security Forces subjected the lorry for a thorough inspection and finally found a makeshift false compartment that has been fixed after welding it thoroughly.

At the time this story was pasted, the lorry has been taken away for further investigations along with the driver.

Tiger Tractor Bringing Reinforcements Meets its Doom

MULLAITTIVU: AN LTTE TRACTOR bringing reinforcements to resist advance of valiant 57 Division troops met its doom late Tuesday (29) evening when it was moving, about 6 km to the south of KOKAVIL, MULLAITTIVU.

As fierce fighting erupted in areas surrounding AKKARAYANKULAM, Tiger terrorists now throwing their full weight behind their resisting tactics were busy bringing in their reinforcements to the battlefronts in a frenzied manner. The tractor in question with about 15-20 terrorists aboard were in that area when the troops rolling in to the east of AKKARAYANKULAM spotted it and fired on it.

Initial reports said at least two Tigers perished and more than fifteen were injured following the surprise attack directed by alert troops consolidating their positions. Exact casualty figures of the enemy are still to be revealed.
