Thanks for Dutch who supplied the ships for the Monks to come to sri lanka.
People and Buddhism went to Thailand, Burma from Sri Lanka long before the Dutch arrived in Sri Lanka.

The elite Special Boat Squadron (SBS) sailors of Sri Lanka Navy attacked and destroyed two LTTE assault boats, appeared off Pooneryn Sea last night (Sept 29), Navy sources said. |

During periods of decline, the Sri Lankan monastic lineage was revived through contact with Myanmar and Thailand.
Periods of Mahayana influence, as well as official neglect under colonial rule, created great challenges for Theravada Buddhist institutions in Sri Lanka, but repeated revivals and resurgences- most recently in the 19th century CE- have kept the Theravada tradition alive for over 2000 years.
