Army Chief, Sareth Fonseka threatens that he make a Musharaaf if minorities are allowed to ask for justice in Sri Lanka. He must make his position clear, if he is the spokesman for the Sinhala Buddhist racist party, JHU, or the chief of the Sri Lankan military, in that case he must be neutral to all the communities and not just for the Sinhala Buddhist majority.

1 killed, 8 injured in attack on TMVP camp
Sunday, 28 September 2008 12:36

The TMVP says one of its camps located in the jungles of Thoppigala in Batticaloa came under an LTTE attack this morning (Sept. 28th).

One party activist was killed and eight others injured in the attack, it said.

The incident came in the wake of internal problems in the TMVP.

Media reported recently that its leader Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman and East chief minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan were at odds with each other.

Home News Govt. wants independent commissions curtailed
Govt. wants independent commissions curtailed
Saturday, 27 September 2008 14:16
Transparency International alleges 29 ruling party MPs have moved to curtail powers of the independent public, police and judicial services commissions enacted through the 17th Amendment to the constitution.
Executive Director of TI J.C. Weliamuna says that these MPs have sent a written request to Constitutional Affairs Minister Dew Gunasekara regarding their objective.

Mr. Weliamuna said this would take the country's constitution back to the 1972 period.

According to a government minister who wished to remain anonymous, these MPs have said unlimited powers being enjoyed by independent commissions comes in their way in taking decisions on public petitions.

The MPs have asked that constitutional amendments be brought in to allow parliamentary committees to mediate in orders of independent commissions.

Several opposition MPs who have come to an understanding with the government are supporting this proposal.

Mr. Weliamuna told 'Lanka Dissent' that such amendments would once against deny these commissions their independence and allow politicians to rule the country according to their wishes.

Shouldn't give into EU threats - Weerawansa
Saturday, 27 September 2008 12:26
Leader of the National Freedom Front Wimal Weerawansa says the government should not give into threats by the European Union over GST+ concession and allow it to create political and economic instability in the country.
Mr. Weerawansa was speaking to the media yesterday (Sept. 26th).

He said the EU was going to inquire into whether Sri Lanka has enforced civil and political charters to which it had been a signatory.

The NFF leader described this as an unreasonable act.

LTTE just made a claim that a joint SLA-TMVP camp was raided in the East with a loss of 1 cadre and caused injury to 8 TMVP cadres and SLA soldiers and seizure of weapons.

It could even be that Karuna cadres raided the Pillaiyan camp and the LTTE is boasting.

Whichever way it is, the split of Tamils is going to explode on MR's face.
