| | Frescos from Anuradhapura Tuesday, 23 September 2008 - 6:20 PM SL Time | | | I am no historian, nor an art critic. I have this photograph which I took at the Anuradhapura museum. It is dated 160-130 BC. I hope people will see that there are even pre-Seegiriya art still found in Sri Lanka.
If you happen to go to Thivanka Pilimageya of Anuradhapura, you could see the frescos of Sasa Jathakaya, belonging to same era!!

Police spokesman had passed false information: SC
With regard to Sunday s registration of Northern citizens in Colombo
By Susitha R. Fernando
Last Sunday s registration in schools, temples and police stations in the Western Province was not a direction by the police but by the Citizen Committees which comprised citizens of the relevant areas, the Supreme Court observed yesterday.
The court made this observation when a fundamental rights application filed by the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) was taken up yesterday.
Counsel M. A. Sumanthiran appearing for the CWC informed court the Police Spokesman had announced the registration was done with the approval of the Attorney General whereas it was not so.
Additional Solicitor General Palitha Fernando stated the programme was organised by the citizen s committees and the area police had assisted the operation.
The Supreme Court Bench comprising Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva and Justices Shiranee Tilakawardena and K. Sripvan noted the Police Spokesman had passed false information with regard to the registration.
The court also made an order on the police to inform the relatives through the area police as soon as possible when a person was taken into custody and receipt of arrest should be forwarded.
The bench made this direction when an application was filed that a person who had gone missing was found in the custody of the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) after 3 days.
Counsel Sumanthiran stated the person Rajaratnam Premaraja from Lindula area had been arrested and on inquiry it was found that he was under the custody of TID.
The Supreme Court reiterated that persons cannot be removed without a court order.
The Chief Legal Officer informed court that newspaper publication in all three languages had been published on Sunday (September 21) with regard to the registration of persons who had come from outside to the Western Province. The case was put off for November 24.
