This is the problem with the Sinhalese, they think democracy means the minorities are at the mercy of Majority. Why should we convince the Sinhalese to get what is rightfully ours?
In my village we have around 50% Sinhalese, 45% Muslims and 5% Tamils, we live in harmony. we are not asking for demarcated areas and lands and help each other out.
The Sinhalese should realize that the Tamils are equal citizens of this country and they have the inalienable right to govern themselves. That is the reason, almost all the countries with ethnic minorities have some form of federal governance. The Tamils asked the Sinhalese to grant their rights peacefully for 30 years and only after that they took the arms to defend their homeland.
you change your demands every time GOSL came to negotiation table. from Banda to Dudley to Thimpu to Oslo to Geneva and here also now you have referred to federal. dont you know LTTE doesnt want federalism, they want a separate state and we are not going to give it.
and also you justify taking up arms because for 30 years your demand for separation failed, what do you think, we dont have a right to ensure that the country is to be protected as a one unit.
Now we don't need to convince the Sinhalese but the Sinhalese must realize that the peace for Tamils is the peace for Sinhalese also. And they should convince themselves, that they cannot nurture the age-old Sinhala dream of subjugating the Tamils anymore. They have to give up that dream and come to their senses. That is the only way they can save the country and they also can have peace in Sri Lanka.
there is no subjugation when 52 % of tamils live in peace in the south and once we eradicate terrorism there will be peace in the country with self governing powers to north in a one single sri lanka. |
