Call for PSC to probe CJ
Friday, 12 September 2008 12:26
Four Buddhist organizations have asked President Mahinda Rajapaksa to appoint a Parliamentary Select Committee to probe Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva, 'Ravaya' reports.

In a joint written request, they have called for an inquiry against the CJ, for having insulted Buddhism in the Supreme Court and to look into 100 questionable court rulings given by him.

The four organizations are the Conversion Observation Centre, Buddhist National Movement, Soma Thera Chinthana Foundation and Bodubala Sena.

Their protest campaign originates pursuant to an order by the CJ to evict Buddhist monks who were present at a recent SC hearing in which another monk stood accused of having violated sound pollution prevention laws.

Director of the Conversion Observation Centre, Ven. Galagodatte Gnanasara Thera said they would also meet the president personally to raise the issue, and would organize a protest march from Colombo to Kandy.

A date is yet to be fixed for the march that will also call for a dialogue on problems faced by monks and for the appointment of a special court for them.

The Thera noted that according to traditions of Buddhist monks, they rise up and pay obeisance only to another monk and no one else, which they had followed at the court incident.

India does not have the concept of a single national language. The Indian Constitution does not recognize Hindi as the national language of India. Instead, official languages are recognized for individual states

so tamil is not the but yes a ,identify difference :)
