A minor explosion in Colombo injured nine people this evening (Sept. 08th), police and hospital sources said.
The victims, all men and two in critical condition, are receiving treatment at Colombo National Hospital, said its director Dr. Hector Weerasinghe.
SSP of the area Premalal Ranagala said the blast at Gas Works Street, Pettah around 9.30 pm appeared to have been caused by a hand grenade.
Three vehicles have been damaged and windows shattered in nearby shops following the explosion.
The area has been cordoned off and a search is presently underway.
