Did you ever think about the economic reasons why many tamils flocked to Colombo? Did you know that Maharaja's was not allowed to open their head office in Jaffna, even though Jaffna at the time was the second largest city in Sri-Lanka. These little, little things are the reasons the tamils are fed-up with the sinhalese racist mentality. The tamils and sinhalese you see who are living in harmony are a very small minority. These are the moderates. If you speak to both of them they will both say the government had good it wrong over the years. The language rules were changed in 1977 first and then in 1988. They changed it because of the public outcry even if through violence. People can't just keep quiet when attrocities are being committed. That is one problem I have with the muslims and burghers in sri-lanka. they just take what ever they are given and never complain. In this day and age that is unheard of. As an individual regardless of wether I am tamil or sinhalese I have rights and if its encroched then there should be a system of remedies available to me. That system never existed for the minorities in sri-lanka. Things have not changed much from then either. Tamils always since 1958 experienced periods of harmony before riots. Did you know there were 11 riots since 1958? Until 1983 Colombo tamils such as myself denied there ever was any trouble with my sinhalese bretheren. Guess what they found my home through a voting list, supplied by a government that my father and grandfather had supported from independence. My family had contributed a lot to sri-lankan society though various civil service positions. My grandfather was a senetor. But all this did not matther because I was tamil. You know what, it still doesnt matter, because if you are tamil you are still a second class citizen.

Alot of young people don't care for now, but what happens if there is another riot in 2010. How long are we supposed to endure riot after riot. Even history id change to suite the bikku mentality.
