The army Friday announced that 700 more army deserters are to be tried by Court Martial soon, and urged the remaining deserters to report back to service and avoid being arrested. We have so far arrested some 2000 army deserters, who failed to report back to the army military Spokesman Udaya Nanayakkara said, adding that some 700 such deserters are to be tried by Court Martial in the next few weeks. Brig. Nanayakkara also said 305 deserters were recently jailed following their arrests.
He urged the deserters to report back to their respective regimental headquarters soon to prevent them from being arrested.
