Will the Sinhalese have the decency to apologize to the Tamils for destroying and desecrating hundreds of Hindu Temples? Even now, the Sinhala Buddhists are occupying our historic, sacred temples as high security zones.

They have desecrated the ancient and most venerated Thiruketheeswaram Temple and looted the gold and silver in the Temple. They ransacked the Naguleswaram Temple and cut the flag pole in half to steal the Silver. They scorched the sacred idol Somaskanda to get the precious stones in Thiruketheeswaram.

The Sinhalese are crying for the damaged done to the walls of Dalada Maligawa but the Sinhala Buddhists have destroyed more than eighteen hundred non-Buddhist worship places.

As they say in America, For God's Sake, Get Real!

Mahavansa,

Yes that is not because they were racists, the scholerly monks did not know of the language, let alone they did English language.

You must remember that what the Buddha taught was understood by many languages as if its their own language but thats at that time.

Buddhsim has no recognition to any barriers including language. Buddha s teaching defies any language medium.

Budhsim is enlightenet, or heart language it is of silence.
Not Noise.

Language is of noise, it is a sign of emptiness.

Silence is of saturation, .

I don t think Buddha preached in Sinhala?.. nor did mahinda thero. I don t know abt you, but almost all the prayers I know are in Paali. But still.. the majority in sri lanka follow Buddhism. So, I really doubt it has anything to do with language. practically speaking, in most cases,it has a lot to do with 'who got there first' , and the requirement of the person.

Prabakaran doesn t need to become a monk , he needs to become a human being!

Buddhism was a bridge between Lanka and Tamil Nadu .

Today, in the context of the raging Tamil-Sinhala conflict in Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka are seen as being adversaries.

The history that is remembered now is the history of invasions from the Tamil country across the Palk Strait, and the threat the Tamil invaders posed to Buddhism in the island.

At that time, the Palk Strait was not seen as a divider. It may seem to be rather unreal today, but Buddhism had many adherents in Tamil Nadu, especially in the influential urban cum trading centres.

As the religion of the elite, Buddhism contributed tremendously to Tamil Nadu's art, literature and culture. This was so even when the Tamil Nadu kings, namely, the Pallavas, Cholas, Cheras, and Pandyas, were Hindus. Contrary to the general impression, the non-Buddhist Tamil kings patronised Buddhism.

Sinhala Buddhists have destroyed more than eighteen hundred non-Buddhist worship places.

South Indian Invaders and South Indian Immigrants and not present tamils destroyed Many Buddhist worship places and changed some places to meet their needs and build hindu temples.

Later, on some of those places Christian worship places were built.

Present Mahu Church has been built on the former PATHTHINI KOVIL building site.
