After my recent experiences in Jaffna - during most sacred time, I feel strongly that neither the government nor the Tamils have real need. We need to look after those who truly care about us and have faith in us and who uphold our investment in law and order for their group. That is real Dharma.

can agree some what,i think first Tamils also should force LTTE to lay down arms and come to reasonable solution,at least if they can surrender arms to third party negotiator(Not Norway) then i don't think majority of Sinhalese and gov reluctant to solve this problem in a reasonable way.majority of Sinhalese are not racist and i know neither majority of Tamils.

the differe between Tamils and Sinhalese is that Sinhalese will go ahead and vote against gov,but will Tamils do that for LTTE,becouse one thing they are also scared of LTTE:) been Tamil and think just like a Tamil wont solve this problem, thats my view.

Bakz,

I Dont have to google for Sorry lanka..it is available even in LNP !

1 million Child labours in a population of 15 million !

Sri Lanka has almost one million children enslaved in child labour, despite being a signatory to the International Convention on Child Labour, Hambantota District UPFA MP Nirupama Rajapaksa said in Parliament yesterday.

Quoting Labour Ministry statistics Ms. Rajapaksa said Sri Lanka had an estimated 926,038 children between 5 and 17 years of age, subject to child labour, which amounts to 21 per cent of all the children in that age group.

?Almost 10 to 12 per cent of these children work in hazardous conditions, such as in mines, with chemicals and pesticides or with dangerous machinery? she said, speaking during the debate on the Employment of Women, Young Persons and Children (Amendment) Bill, which was passed yesterday.

Ms. Rajapaksa said these figures do not take into account the numbers of children being used in the intimacy trade for child pornography or prostitution.

?Approximately 19,000 children, mostly girls, work as domestic servants and unpaid household help and are especially vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. Many work under horrific circumstances, being forced to carry out heavy work well beyond their capacity?, she said.

She said the new law would address areas of child abuse that have plagued the country for decades, namely, the use of children and young persons for prostitution, pornography and in illicit or hazardous activities.

?It is needless to point out that there are some extreme forms of practices of child labour in Sri Lanka that no person or government could dismiss as a mere inevitable consequence of poverty?, she said, adding that child labour denies a child education which affects the mental development and consequently the development of the nation.

She said the Labour Ministry was presently compiling a list of ?hazardous work? for children, in accordance to the International Labour Organization Convention signed in 1999.

The list includes intimacyual abuse, work in mines, quarries, on heights or confined spaces, work with dangerous machinery or with heavy loads, and work where the child is unreasonably confined to the premises of the employer.

Looks like you have got a scary experience ?

How is LNP responsible for your experience ?

It was not scary but disgusting and has wanted me against investment in those who do not have faith in me. A guy came up from behind me and held me captive by placing his hand around me neck. I could not scream because of the force he was exerting. I struggled to free myself - thinking I was going to be raped and killed. Then I managed to cry out 'Muruga' and the guy let go, turned around and ran away. Someone did see him run away. My throat is still hurting and I am trying to sort out my thinking as to who it might have been.

All those who failed to uphold my status publicly despite knowing that I am committed to Justice, are responsible. All those who were allowed to demean me through Lankanewspapers are also responsible. Shame on all of you

When a fellow member is in distress if you can talk politics one of us does not belong here.

It's the government that is officially responsible and the Tigers have failed to demonstrate that they have the forces to protect those of us who have invested in Tamil Homeland and who do come here regularly to help fellow Tamils. Lord Muruga has sent me a message to reconsider my strategy and approach.
