hey who the guy asking about 12kms remember we captured it on the 23rd August according to the prime minister
Posted By: DUW
hey good question about 12 kms,I travelled the whole part of a day during the ceasefire on a carpeted road.must check if we have chinese ancestors,as the politicians in good old lanka think so
Posted By: DUW
Hope nothing serious.. but where are our air defense...and radars..... ???? our island is just 65410 sq km and still we don't have a proper radar system to cover it.....
Posted By: Dilan
Oh... Runway completely destroyed, black tigers bases destroyed, gathering places destroyed, still have 12km from kilinochchi, new radars from all over the world and bla bla bla bla........but couldn't shot down a LOCAL made aircraft...... who is always losing this war....
Posted By: Robert
This is a good opertunity for those who profess that LTTE is invincibal. They will open there mouth with glee in coming few days but remember the fate of LTTE is already sealed by our heroic forces.
Posted By: lion
We are told that our security forces are at the door of LTTE strong hold. How on earth can aircraft take off, raid the naval base and return to Kilinochi or Mullaithivu undetected, unless they(LTTE) use invisible aircraft !
Posted By: THONY
I don't really understand why don't we have some surface to air missiles installed in all vital installations and possible LTTE air routes. So far all air attacks carried out by LTTE (regardless of success) they managed to escape. That was a heavy blow to Sri Lanka security and moral booster for ailing Tiger terrorists.
Posted By: Appuhamy
HOW FUNNY IS THE WHOLE EPISODE. THIS IS THE 3RD OR THE 4TH ATTACK BY THE LTTE. LOOKS LIKE THAT OUR FORCES CAN ONLY GO AND ATTACK AND NOT COUNTER ATTACK OR FIGHT IT OUT FACE TO FACE. WHY COULDN'T OUR SLAF SHOOT DOWN THE SMALL AIRCRAFT OF LTTE ? WHAT HAPPEN TO THE ANTI AIRCRAFT MISSILES WE BOUGHT AT A COST ? THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEM LIES ?
Posted By: MOHAN
Despite half a century of technical education we do not have locally ivolved capabilities in high tech that can be used in improvizations to deal with threats like this. All we can do is follow the operator manual.
Posted By: senra
Very sad. This shows how ready we were ! After years of the first air attack, still we cant shot down this mosquito.. We boost about radar systems and air defence systems.. It's time to act wise without boosting. This is an insult to our victories in wanni. SLAF sould have a solid plan to cut-off the LTTE mosquito airforce!

Meanwhile, speaking to Daily Mirror, government Defence Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukkwella said that the Tiger aircraft may have attempted to target the Navy's 'Jet Liner' ship that was loaded with food items to be transported to Jaffna for distribution among the people there. 'The radar system had picked up the rebel aircraft and the navy was able to successfully retaliate and chase away the light aircraft,' he said. Meanwhile, an Air Force official said that several air force combat helicopters and attack aircraft capable of intercepting and attacking the aircraft in the air, took off from Vavuniya and Anuradhapura in order to attack the rebel aircraft.

Most of the people here are asking where the radars were...For your information, these planes have been flying very low which means they are undetectable by radar. Also, Anti Aircraft (AA) guns are useless against a target flying at a coconut tree's height. However, that being said, SLDF should have been able to hit them with a T-56 or an AK-47. Sometime back in Iraq, a farmer brought down an Apache worth millions of dollars with a shot gun bullet which cost $5 at max!

How long will it take to gun down so called as 'Kurumbetti Machine'. Where's the radar and those missiles. We may fail to do everything but I don't know how dare politicians say that we will gun them down. Where are they now? What do they say now? They should really understand that politics and the war is different. I hope our heroes will soon gun them down.

What happened to the Sri Lanka fighter planes.
Posted By: G.S. de Silva
Ha aha ha... Why dont you all light up a Mortien coil? Then the mosquitoes wont come near....? How many times this has occurred?
Posted By: The Analysis
Air Force Commander, What has happend with our Radar system. If is's not sufficient why don't you recommend a better system. It's your responsibility and no more you can say it's a technical fault. What about Mig27. Why we bought then ? It's our money. Don't waste them.

People making comments here are so pathetic. Now can you understand y this war is unwinnable. You might capture the whole country but the LTTE will still survive. Even if they lose the plane they will be able to get down another one. Very good lesson for all those who voted for the continuation of war.
Posted By: Rayan
I hear it's nothing serious. Just one explosion and some anti-aircraft machine gun fire was heard. The lights are out, but all seems calm. No big deal. G
Posted By: Gurugee
Prabhakaran will use this plane to flee when Wanni get captured. It will be then shot. Is this the government plan for not destroying the mosquito?
Posted By: pdeshabandu
If we are still unable to shoot down two low flying aircrafts, our military establishments are absolutly useless. What defences do we actualy have and do we need three military heads.
Posted By: Adrian Douglas
Incidents can happen for both ends in a war. There is no rule that only one side can hit all the time. However, a conventional, leagal xxx-Forces in a country should be able the manage affairs in a country particualrly against an organizations that is cut-off with funds, military purchases, staying in hiding -in that sens this is bit of shame.
Posted By: FaceDaTruth
what were the radars for?it says army were ready for the 'mosquitos' at the base and still couldn't bring em down.we need our soldiers trained for this not to just shoot to the night sky blindly!
Posted By: tharaka
can't they put down atleast one A'Craft, where our cafeer & mig ?,are our pilots still working for election.
Posted By: BMS
In just another couple of weeks when the entire wanni is liberated from the bood thirsty LTTE, we all will be able to see these mosquito planes on TV news along with bodies of Prabha, Charles and Pottu.
Posted By: Sanjaya R
Suddenly the LTTE sympathisers have woken up !! 2 Toy planes will not deter the Sri Lankan Armed forces to 'Crush' the enemy !...... Go fly a kite at Kilinochi stadium !.... The end is near

India mind your business, you cheated us by giving obsolete radars. We know your plans to destroy us militarily, economically and politically. You know, we have the oldest history in the world. Our literacy rates are 99.9999 now may be 100. So mind your own business.

Meantime other new says Kfir bombers were seen over Ki'linochchi during the reported attack in Trincomalee. I think the Kfir piolet may drop a bomb over Trincomale before reach Kilinochi was a UNP supporter?
Posted By: Arthy
It is imperative to obtain independant news at this juncture.
Posted By: Phil
SO MUCH FOR THE RADARS & THE MIG'S! THEY BOAST ABOUT MIG'S CAPABILITIES, BUT NONE OF THEM WORTH IT, IF LTTE SINGLE ENGINE AIRCRAFT COULD DO THIS & ESCAPES BACK TO WANNI WITH OUT ANY INCIDENT.
Posted By: nf
They have carried out 5 attacks, in any single incidenets, any civilians injured or killed? Where did they get these training? Government bombing almost everyday, but they couldn't control this kind of attack?
Posted By: David
well this shows how nervous & panicked LTTE is right now, since our forces are closing in on them. LTTE IS DEFINITELY LOOSING THE BATTLE! THAT'S FOR SURE!!
Posted By: NF
Big talking SLAF commanders got egg in their faces.

Flying Tigers, dropped two bombs after the election!! To celebrate victory for Dr. Mervin Uncle!

Posted By: Ramana

Posted By: prasad
Unfurtunate to see SL navy s ineptness in flapping the LTTE s mosquito squadron.
