It gives signals of early liberation of the people of northern Sri Lanka from the LTTE, the so-called liberators. To bring back democracy and peace to Sri Lanka, the government of Sri Lanka for its part should exonerate itself from the charge of human rights violations and without any further delay come out with a proposal for power devolution, acceptable to the minorities and the international community, which I believe is a Federal solution or in the alternative, a solution based on the Indian model, lest it loses its credibility.

No one need to advice about human rights in Sri Lanka:) better check whether people in vanni have human rights when they asked by force to take arms and fight till die, people who says thats correct now talk about human Rights in sri lanka, white vans will be here and any Tamil LTTE suspect will be eradicated from Colombo under any circumstances, its to prevent happening another 1983,obviously Eastern UN incident should have given a light for such, in universities in south which was handled nicely by gov not to happened such:).and i know killing innocent sinhalise student in uni take as bravery in most LTTE supporters in this forum :)

Catholic commission in Vanni highlights IPDs plight
TamilNet, Wednesday, 27 August 2008, 00:19 GMT
Amid pouring rain and thundering blasts of artillery and mortar shells, more than 170,000 Internally Displaced Persons in Vanni are facing a great human tragedy, which is calculatedly concealed from the world outside, said Rev. Fr. James Pathinathan, the president of the Vanni branch of the Justice and Peace Commission (JPC) of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jaffna, in an urgent appeal to the U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, on Tuesday. 'If the International Community doesn't act at once, it will be too late,' he told TamilNet after handing over the memorandum to the Residential Representative of the UNHCR in Vanni.

open letter to sangaree Aiya
Tamils are held hostage in their own land says TULF leader
(Speech delivered by V. Anandasangaree, president of TULF, at the opening of Call of the Conscience-a human rights art exhibit on the conflict in Sri Lanka-held at Roy Thomson Hall in downtown Toronto, August 23, 2008.)
To bring back democracy and peace to Sri Lanka, the government of Sri Lanka for its part should exonerate itself from the charge of human rights violations and without any further delay come out with a proposal for power devolution, acceptable to the minorities and the international community, which I believe is a Federal solution or in the alternative, a solution based on the Indian model, lest it loses its credibility.
dear sangaree aiya
first you make sure that you can compell govt to put forward a solution before you open your mouth to talk about ltte. you are a foolish person as a senior politician tamils have and you could not understand the the motive of govt. if ltte is defeated dont even think about govt talking about offering political solution to the ethnic problem.
Sangaree Aiya, atleast try to do something which will compell govt/sinhalese to offer asolution rather that legitimising their actions.
if you do this atleast some tamil people will attend to your last journey. take care.

I mean really, does SLAF not have any portable SAMs on hand at their important bases for situations like this?
How long does it take for someone to pick up a SAM and fire it? It can't take more than a 5 minutes. Does SLAF have absolutely no communication with SLN such that they can tell them that they have no planes flying at the moment and to shoot whatever is flying?
Who cares if their junk tins fly low. A SAM can hit that, just as it can hit a low flying helicopter
If it is so impossible to hit these planes, then SLAF might as well fly these over Wanni given how impossible it seems to hit them.
I mean SLAF should be able to do the same.
Anyways no worries. The base was well guarded and they didnt do any damage |

The truth is in this part...:-)
If the International Community fails to take such a bold step, it would lead the Tamils to think that the IC is supporting the military agenda of the GoSL, at the cost of the lives of the innocent IDPs in Vanni, he told TamilNet.
A ceasefire will greatly help NGOs taking food and other essentials to the IDPs who face the risk of annihilation, he said.
'The International Community and other interested nations, if they want to usher in peace with justice in Sri Lanka, they must first effect an immediate cease fire and address urgent humanitarian needs of the innocent civilians here,' he further said.
