Good move from both Indian and SL gov
CHENNAI: Sri Lanka has assured India that there will be no firing by the Sri Lankan Navy on Indian fishermen hereafter, M.K. Narayanan, National Security Adviser, said on Monday.
In the event of arrest of the fishermen, they would be released in the shortest possible time. They would be given humanitarian treatment as far as possible, and there would be no maltreatment of the Indian fishermen, Mr. Narayanan told journalists, emerging from a 40-minute-long meeting with Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and senior officials of the State government at the Secretariat.
Describing as positive understanding the outcome of discussions at bilateral meetings between India and Sri Lanka early this month prior to the summit of the South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation, Mr. Narayanan said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in his meeting with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa went into great detail on each of the points raised by the Chief Minister in his letter to Dr. Singh and personal discussions with him. On the basis of the discussions, a tentative understanding was reached, he said.

Another peelamist crying his head off
August 25, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarian Chandrakanthan Chandraneru has issued statement calling the International Community to intervene immediately to stop the Sri Lankan Government forces onslaught on the Tamil population in the Vanni district.
TNA MP Chandrakanthan states that the Tamil people, the very roots of nationalism, are not with the government but, they are with the LTTE. Therefore, military victories are not permanent unless there is a political solution. That is the reality that the government must realize.
In a statement issued to the Press, Chandrakanthan states that the Tamil people do not believe that the government will resolve the problem through negotiations. They do not believe that the present government is interested in a political solution. It is only interested in a military solution.
He added that following the ongoing war in the Vanni, the people face a great human tragedy. Normal life is paralyzed. They have lost their employment opportunities. They are displaced due to the war where aggression is caused in their territory through the military operations. As a result of attacks on Vanni, people undergo great sufferings.

A Tamil reveals reality
It is no secret that the LTTE has now become so weak, but still keep on challenging not only the Government of Sri Lanka but the entire International Community as well. The Tamils are held as hostages in their own land. Even the Tamils living freely in the South with Sinhalese and those who fled the country and are being well looked after by various countries in the West, Canada and the United States are living in fear and tension due to the threat of the LTTE. Most of the Tamil media all over the world are under their control and are used by them to glorify all their actions and to condemn all their rival organizations and individuals opposed to them. Although the LTTE is banned in all the 28 countries of the European Union, UK, USA, Australia, India and more recently in Canada they continue their activities unchecked in some of the countries where they are proscribed. Under the pretext of having a cultural program even after it is banned, the LTTE hood-winked the Canadian authorities and celebrated the Ponguthamil recently in Toronto at which even the Tiger Flag was hoisted.
