I think the deserters would prefer to be court marshalled rather than be shot in the back running away from the LTTE in the Vanni jungles.

14000 deserted in 2008? They probably know more about the killing fields in Vanni than the govt lets the public know.

If the sri lankan forces are close to Killinochchi ( only 7 Miles) why do they want still to recrut 12 thousands for the army and 2500 for army commandos and begging all thoses remaining 15 thousnds desertedrs to join back arm forces?

What is this kakka stories that the Ministry has been telling to the public

extra forces are to station in all over the North and East. there will be Army Settlements here and there to make sure LTTE never raise its ugly head once again. After the war North and East will be a controlled environment until all surviving LTTE cadres are rehabilitates to GOSLs satisfaction. :))

President opens the 'Ran Weta' at Kelaniya Temple


Aug 23, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa today ceremoniously opened a new Ran weta (golden fence) at Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya this evening.

Construction of this Ran Weta was sponsored by the Sri Lanka Army. Ven. Kollupitiye Dammarakkitha Thero, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka, Speaker V.J.M Lokubandara, Minister Karu Jayasooriya, President's Secretary Lalith Weeratunga were also present.

They are to be stationed in BIA to catch diaspora terrorists. So they will get free rides to Gail.
