President Mahinda Rajapaksa had left for the Beijing Olympics, accompanied by Finance Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundara who has recently been found guilty of fraud in a state transaction.
According to Presidential Secretariat sources, First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa and sons Yoshitha and Rohitha too, are included in the presidential delegation.
The President has permitted only the two sports ministers to attend the inauguration of the 27th Olympics on August 08th.
However, Minister of Highways T.B. Ekanayake will take part at the invitation of Deputy Sports Minister of China Yu Zaiquing who is president of the International Wushu Federation.
This will be the very first occasion a Sri Lankan President is attending an Olympic ceremony.
