Sri Lankan males are madly into porn. In particular young males, who only have a chance for some sex with foreign women or with prostitutes before they have enough money to marry. Mahinda should not take away their only way of giving some relieve to their natural pressure.
Also many Sri Lankan politicians and ministers are deeply into porn and prostitutes. That is a widely known fact as well as it is absolutely impossible to make websites unavailable.
Of course, everyone in Sri Lanka can still read tamilnet over any of the thousands of proxy servers that are impossible to track and to block.
The only result will be more bribe money for the police in case they can detect some porn pictures on mobiles or computers :-))

AnuD,
yeah, very different :-) How can undisciplined ministers like the great Mervin Selva do anything and why are all the sexually frustrated males
without big bucks not allowed to watch some porn.
What does that have to do with discipline ?

This is not a problem unique to just Sri Lanka. President's intensions are good. But as you said it is not going solve the problem. Even in the United States Porn is huge. Internet porn is a $14 + billion industry over here. |

Eskimo,
how are you :-)
you are correct, that porn is not limited to SL. China, India and Japan host giant porn industries as well and obviously no one can stop the rain.
In this world almost every child has access to porn through friends and Internet cafes if not at home 24/7 like in Europe, developed Asia, US and so on.
Most lunatic politicians have no idea about the power of the Internet and should keep their mouths shut whilst parents are challenged to explain the world of porn wisely to their children before others will do it.
What i observed in SL that naive country boys and adults believe, that all Western, Thai and Japanese women are like those they see at their porn parties.
Teachers and parents need to explain intensively, that what they see in these videos does not reflect the desires of all females. In addition the importance and meaning of love and respect seems to have gotten lost in SL when it comes to the general treatment that many women receive.
An intelligent government would work on that and focus all available police sources on child porn. There are a lot of Sri Lankan males who desire 12 year old girls. 'Very fresh' is what they want.
Banning porn on the web, not even the massive amounts of Chinese have gotten that together ... |
