A new movement to encourage the government to devolve power to the provincial councils was launched in Colombo on Thursday .
The inaugural meeting was attended by parties to the United Pople`s Front Alliance (UPFA) government as well as civil society activists.
Minister Dilan Perera speaking at the inaugural meeting said that there are certain sections within the government that oppose d devolution of power.
He said that this new movement has been launched to strengthen those who support devolution within the ruling alliance.
Minister Perera added that the government needs to be encouraged to devolve power to provincial councils to deal with police and land matters.
I have no problem with the word Elam but it should be a Tamilnadu style Elam where all of us could live together said Dilan Perera.

Movement for Devolution launched.
How about organizing an island wide essay competition to among grade 3 students to force the government to devolve more power. Perhaps, a campaign to sew world's largest peace flag can be launched based on the outcome of the essay competition.
:)

The ball has started rolling!
To me, it seems that balls are falling off from our stupid ministers.
Over the years, SLFP thugs who had been sleeping with their mother prostitutes (sirima/CBK) have resisted devolution. That is all.
Otherwise, devolution of power is in the 13th amendment all these years. Just implement. You don't need a movement for that. |

| Devolved power could be a way of bringing the non active supporters of the LTTE in from the cold. |

| This is a recipe for corruption we all know the candidate just check to see which relative is next in line for handouts. provincial councils will do nothing but intimidate the poor to do their bidding. Council should consist of people from the area elected by the people and no one associated with terrorists or government be allowed to participate. |

A movement is formed to force the govt of Rajapakse to implement 13th Amendment which he claimed he did.
How many years old is this 13th Amendment? What is the use of a legislation or Constitutional Amendment if the govt itself does not implement it even after 20 years?
Any word from Pillayan? |

If this GOSL politicize the system, at the end only a military govt in Sri Lanka can change Sri Lanka's direction
Irrespective of number of politicians people have to work their living. Politicians could not do it for 100 years since 1910 or even since 1948.
They won't do it in the future.
What Sri Lanka need is less political interference. Why do we need so many political decisions. |
