Sri Lanka Tourism will be actively involved in promoting the country as a tourist hot spot when the 15th South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation Summit (SAARC) begins in the capital Colombo next week.
Sri Lanka Tourism will assist nearly 250 foreign media personnel who will be in Sri Lanka to report on the summit, operating a full time media centre at the BMICH, from July 27th to August 3, working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a press release said.
A special visit to the Eastern Province is a highlight of the programme for foreign journalists from the SAARC region and from US, UK, Japan and Thailand covering the event. They will be exposed to the comprehensive development activities being carried out in the region with assistance from foreign donor nations and organizations.
The foreign media will also have the opportunity to make an excursion visit to Kandy, Negombo, Hikkaduwa and the Thalangama Wet Lands.
. Strategies for new product development, promoting intra-regional and international tourism and sharing of resources, are among the items for discussion on the SAARC Summit agenda for Colombo.

Colombo airport has the highest landing fees in the region and a taxi to litter polluted Hikkaduwa costs nearly $100. In Hikkaduwa a miserable chicken curry with lots of bones and other rubbish costs three times as much as best chicken filet in Thailand.
In Thailand tourist and local ladies are used to walk around freely in their hot pants and bikinis without having horny males staring and grabbing.
Without looking into the aspects of security, comfort and prices in other holiday countries it will be impossible to build a tourism industry.
In addition the oil price is doing big damages even to the nearly perfect tourism industry in Thailand which is offering much cheaper flights to get there.
700 km spacious van tours to Burma cost $30, 1/2 day speedboat trips to beautiful remote island beaches with snacks, soft drinks and hotel pick up $15.
That's what these visitors have on their mind in conjunction with a tropical island. foreign journalists from the SAARC region and from US, UK, Japan and Thailand
About the Sri Lankan rates they will write 'robbery'. |

| Sri Lanka is ripping off the tourists at an alarming rate some hotels have the audacity to charge $400 US per night for hotels in god forsaken places feeding them polsambol. Taxi rides from the airport is the worst rip off in Asia the airline should be called suicide travel since they broke all agreements to take it off Emirates. Ask them when they last serviced the plane only service they did was to leave it in the rain to give it a wash. |
