A vertical dam is being constructed around what is thought to be Prabhakaran s bunker in the Wanni in order to construct a deep underground railway tunnel, as an escape plan in the event the security forces capture Killinochchi, intelligence sources told The Daily Mirror yesterday.

According to intelligence sources, tension now exists in Wanni as several escape routes are being constructed around LTTE bunkers in the event the security forces make their entrance into the area.

Yes, SWRD was a victim of a an assassin who happened to be Buddhist priest as well.. But the context of your statement was that the Buddhist priest throughout history has carried out killings and executions. Which is not true. hence my challenge to you to prove it. The Buddhist priests in Sri Lanka are not what you morons would like to paint them. Majority of them are religious and kind and compassionate people who bears no ill will to any human...or animal. YOu have to look at the bigger picture without accusing a sacred segment of this country. people like you mock them and insult them without even having met the real priest in this country.

but compared to hindu and christian priests, Buddhist monks participate in violent protest march, they burn national flag of other countries, they manhandle others , they were being batton charged by police for their unruly behaviour in SL.

WHY Only JULY 1983 Riots? Talk about LTTE atrocities also simultaneously

Most talked, discussed and unjustly elaborated event in the recent history is the Black July 1983. Sri Lankans without any reservations condemn this unfortunate event and all Presidents have made public apologies for what happened. But yet it continues to be commemorated by the media supporting the Tamils in an attempt to humiliate Sinhalese. Very little is spoken about how the Sinhala people risked their lives and helped the Tamil families at the riots.

It s an accepted fact that the Black July incident was not a riot by Sinhalese against Tamils but committed by politically motivated thugs. Thugs are paid mercenaries and may belong to any ethnic group. However, the fact remains that this incident was a blessing in disguise to many Tamils who were not affected also to seek political asylum and refugee status in affluent countries. They now live in luxury and make the hard core of the Tamil Diaspora financing the LTTE war in Sri Lanka.

Incidentally the Tamils never speak of over five hundred members killed by the LTTE ,TELO,PLOTE,TULF,EPRLF,EPDP etc.

Let me remind those who harp on the 1983 July Riots, the atrocities committed by LTTE terrorists over the years against innocent civilians. I am leaving out the numbers killed by LTTE in the forces, political assassinations and numbers less than 20 to avoid an exhaustive list.

Starting with Pettah Bomb in 1987 killing over hundred and maiming almost 300 massacre of 127 Sinhala men and women, children in Kitulwatte and murder of about 200 Sinhalese and Muslim civilians in the Eastern province within a week Massacre of Kent & Dollar farmers Suicide bomb attack on Central Bank killing over hundred and maiming 1500 massacre of bus load of Buddhist monks in Arantalawe, are only a handful to start with.

These are few of the mass killings of innocent civilians by LTTE which runs into thousands. Unfortunately, no print or electronic media both within and outside Sri Lanka talk about these killings but continue to commemorate so-called 1983 July riots every year. When you think of the innocent people killed in July riots, please focus your attention also to the thousands of innocent civilians killed by LTTE.

If Sinhalese have to commemorate killings of innocent civilians by the Tamil terrorist outfit LTTE over the years, 365 days of the year is insufficient as it runs into thousands of incidents and not just one like July 24. Yet no media, NGOs, writers speak aout these killings.

And despite all these killings of innocent civilians and attack on Buddhist sacred places like Sri Maha Bodiya and Dalada Maligawa, Sinhala Buddhists never retaliated but tolerated in silence. This show of tolerance clearly proves that Black July was not instigated by majority Sinhalese but by a handful of political goons. It is time we st
