On Monday a visiting Pakistani delegate and spokesperson for the Pakistan Labour Party, Farook Tharique was livid. In an interview with News1st he blamed the Rajapakse government of pandering to rich politicians and called the moves to break down the long standing residences of hundreds of people mostly Muslims, a shameful fall out of SAARC.
'We have come here to show solidarity with these people whose houses have been demolished in the name of the SAARC meeting. This is an absolute insult to the people of Sri Lanka that they should lose their houses because some rich politician and some head of state are coming to Sri Lanka.
'They should provide them immediate shelter. These houses should be rebuilt and compensation for the damages done. We will make sure that the demolition of houses will not go unheard. We will raise this in Pakistan, India. We are the people of SAARC. We are the people s representatives. We will tell the world that poor people in Colombo lost their houses in the name of SAARC. This is a shame on the government and a shame.'

Already the up coming summit has served only as an opportunity for the LTTE to shore up another tactical move for the benefit of the international community in the form of a Unilateral Ceasefire.
A clever gesture given the LTTE presents itself as a reasonable player in the battle especially in the backdrop of an over excited government gone berserk.
The official statement extended good wishes to the 15th SAARC Conference on behalf of the people of Tamil Eelam, in its aims, to improve the economic development of the vast South Asian region and to create a new world order based on justice, equality and peace.

'At the same time if the occupying Sinhala forces, disrespecting our goodwill gesture of our people and our nation, carry out any offensives, our movement will be forced to take defensive actions.'
