Sinhala ONLY ensured 92% of the Govt jobs went to Sinhalese, 99% SLDF and out of 160 students selected to the Law College only 2 is from the minorities (Muslims and Tamils) as pointed out by MP Rauf Hakeem.

Well, that is Sinhaliztan. No hope for Tamils!

Only an independent State of Tamil Eelam will get Tamils out of misary!

Sinta

I totally agree with you on the Sinhala Only Act because it was indeed unfair on minorities whose mother tongue was not Sinhala. No arguement here and it caused considerable damage to relations between communities and the government (not necessarily between communities themselves).

Your arguement on standardisation however is factually incorrect.

I know for a fact that children from the eastern province immensely benefited from the standardisation policy to gain university entrance. I know this because some of my best friends' children entered engineering faculty (peradeniya) with less than 200 marks. If not for that policy those children would not have entered universities (or less people from the east would have entered)

I am not saying the policy was introduced to help Tamil students from the east. It also helped Sinhalease students from less priviledged districts. It however made it difficult to those from Jaffna, Colombo and Kandy (potentially Matara, Galle ett)

Benefits of standardisation was also felt by upcountry students (nuwaraeliya district)which also has a sizeable Tamil population

Sinta, Surely, you want ALL Tamils, NOT ONLY Jaffna Tamils to have access to free education, is it not?

Let s start from the unitary Sinhala Buddhist constitution. Are you ready to take the religion out of politics first? :)))

Thivya,

I dont know much about the constitution but the little I know entails certain clauses that require drastic changes and in some cases complete elimination. There are many sinhalease who share the same view. In fact that is the majority but it is a silent majority.

As for taking religion out of politics, I am in absolute agreement. In fact, I have expressed my remorse and condemnation against Buddist monks entering the parliament. I also know one JHU monk and I absolutely refuse to respect him (sorry if I upset JHU supporters, but I think I am entitled to decide whom I should respect). Religion has and should have no place in politics in my view

I think I have answered your question.

Yep. Very good point!

If Chingala Muniya learns to keep the religion away from government, unitary state make sense.

But, it will not happen, at least for 100 years, until perhaps Muslims become a majority of the country. That is why momentum is gathering in some Tamil quarters for 100 year war!

I don't agree with the above statement. The Tamils don't elect the governments in Sri Lanka but the Sinhala majority does. They elect the most extreme anti Tamil politicians of that season to form the government. That's why I say the majority of Sinhalese are anti Tamil racists.

Historically the Sinhala psyche of hatred of Tamils finds expression in Sinhala legends of battles against the marauding Tamils intent on driving the Sinhala race out into the Indian Ocean. It also explains the frequent eruptions of Sinhala violence (mobs and the armed forces) on the Tamils in post colonial SL.

SL politicians exploit this prejudice at every election making anti-Tamil policies the main platform and in the process stirring up deep seated anti-Tamil fear and hate emotions amongst the SL Sinhala masses.
