I am not kidding on this 100 year war. It has been discussed at Tamil circles. The notion is that the longer the war last the better for Tamils. I do not want to mantion the rational.. but, I think is has its merits!

The LTTE and its supporters often assert that a guerilla movement fighting for the goal of national liberation cannot be defeated militarily. This may or may not be true but the point to be taken note of is something else.
If the prolonged armed struggle for Tamil Eelam is leading to a gradual decline of the Tamil population in Sri Lanka then the ultimate losers will be the Tamils themselves.
A minority would be made a microscopic minority and therefore made easily manageable by the numerical majority.
It does not matter then whether the LTTE is defeated or not because the Tamils will be weakened quantitatively and qualitatively.
To put it bluntly the so called Sinhala state need not win this war. All it has to do is prolong the war and sustain the pressure. The Tamils would be drastically reduced in numbers . This is already happening in the Island.

The SLDF has the distinction of being an ALL VOLUNTEEER force.
Unlike the forceful conscription of the LTTE, our soldiers has the freedom to join up or leave after the tour of duty is done.

but you will run after deserters. most of the guys dont know about the war front and once they realise it it they run away but you are running after them to put them in frontline.

LTTE press gangs frequently invade homes before dawn carrying details about the residents, looking for those who have come of conscription age. A boy or girl reaching the age of 17 and failing to report to the LTTE could expect press gangs to turn up within two or three days. Others seen to be suitable are caught on the roads. Neither side spares Government servants. The Government s Deep Penetration Unit or their proxies have killed several of them in landmine attacks. A year ago, Killinochchi AGA Nithyananthan was travelling on his motorcycle with his young daughter on the pillion. He was stopped by the LTTE and the girl was taken. Nothing more has since been heard of her

the big QUESTION is can govt prolong the war as per this writer for another 20 yrs??
