I really don't know whether Murali wanted the Captaincy but I am sure he would have been so proud to captain the Sl side..
If you search through slcricket site, I mentioned the same. In fact, I still prefer Murali over Mahela. Specially when Mahela became captain his contribution sank. Wouldnt have happened to Murali. I myself like ot see Murali as the captain of our national team. |

Pawan,
dont twist what was written. the way i read it he hasnt meant any harm to murali
He is trying to hide a Pumpkin in the rice.
As Berty Anna said, Kumble made a very good captain almost at the end of the career. why dont you give even a one test captainship to Murali & find out his leadership qualities ?

| SL has planned Mahela to be Captain from a long time. he was captain from under 11 days. It was Arjuna, Jayasuriya, Atapattu and Mahel. Atapattu was not removed as captain. he was just injured and mahela was given the job temporarily, but by the time atapattu came back mahela has beaten england in england 5-0 in ODI and 1-1 in tests. so they didnt remove mahela and atapattu has to go. Murali was never considered as captaincy material even from school days. |

Murali is not a joker, he is pretty serious about his bowling. But then when he bats, its another matter!
Dont take it out of context. What I meant was that he jokes around with everyone and being light hearted, like a funny guy, never like a dictator with a poker face. |

sorry..I am not playing the racial card just to create an issue..but it is nice to have a open mind and discuss and see where we go with it..I suppose majority of the cricket lovers wouldn't have thought about it..but again..let us look at the reasons with an open mind..
I think plz you try to leave the racial issue out of this..and give your valuable point of View..
yes Shafter is a Tamil but that is simply the administration..there is another Tamil guy there..Mathivanan.. |

you have to have the leadership qualities. You have to be sort of a commander of your troops. I was told that Murali does not have a commanding personality and he is pretty much a joker in the team
I strongly disagree with this statement, If Murali is given the
the captaincy he would have changed. Of cause some times Murali has
shown some symptoms of foot in the mouth syndrome, but he knowledgeable about cricket, and team mates respects him. He would have made a very good captain, I am sure better captain than Mahela. Take Shane Warne for an example, he was overlooked for captaincy, he was never the captain for a long period, but he showed what he is capable of in IPL.
Having said all that, I don't think the problem is in Murali being
a tamil. Sri Lankan cricket is run by a bunch of Morons, and we are
lucky to be doing alright in Cricket. Take Mubarak for an example.
He is a Muslim, and I have not seen him scoring a fifty in any form of cricket let alone test, still he is captaining the board presidents 11, while lot of talented possible future captains are sitting in the bench. Ethnicity does not explain that. |

Chennai,
but even today people of india would love to have Ganguly, Dhoni or yuvaraj to be captain. their decisions whether good or bad, on field and off field attitudes draws the people in and rally them to one goal, victory for india. Kumble is a good captain, but I dont think he would be able to galvanise the forces of cricket like the players such as ganguly, dhoni and yuvaraj.

Mrs Hajara
Murali probably did not end up as the captain because it might affect his bowling?
U would have never known..Kumble was given the captaincy..it did not affect his bowling but he was a sharp and confident captain..
Sanath's batting went down when he captained and his stats rose when he was relieved of that duty.
why are we not talking about Mahela here..have you checked his stats before and after given the Captaincy..trust me if he is not the Captain he would have been out of the team..
I think for Murali or anyone of his class (not that there are many in his class!) to perform well, captaincy might be a hindrance.
I disagree...I think he will do a better job than mahela |
