Perhaps you have forgotten that tamils are the minority in SL. Tell me why USA never had a black or hispanic president thus far? Did india have a tamil prime minister?

Having said that it is not all impossible for a minority to become a leader of the country given that he can get more votes than anyone else. Obama has a chance in US, not because he is from minority, he happen to come through a political party. Even in SL, Kadir had a pretty good chance of doing an Obama.

You need to have some common sence.. The president of Sri Lanka was chosen by a vote as you know 70% of the population in Sri Lanka and 4% Sri Lankan tamils.
Who ever can win peoples confidence can become the president or priminister and who ever win peoples (not only Tamils) confidence will be tagged as a traitor by LTTE terrorists and killed. Lakshman Kadiragamar one of them who had a potential to become a priminister but LTTE killed him. Jayaraj Fernandopulle was another..
How can be there any Tamil leader when you people help Terrorsts to kill them...

We should implement a system that is beneficial to all and also work in long term.

How do you satisfy Muslims?
How do you satisfy up-country Tamils?
How do you satisfy southern Sinhalese?
How do you satisfy Karaves?

etc etc etc
Federal type solution for one ethnic group is not an intelligent solution

what is that system?

any unitary system will be inherently beneficial to sinhalese since they are nemerically majority at the expense of minorities.
as long as decision making power is with sinhalese for the whole sl then whatever decision being made will be to first satisfy the sinhalalese.

A Tamil can become a president in Sri Lanka. Becoming a president does not mean he has free will to do anything. He needs the support of the people and the various sections of the society. That is how our ancient Tamil kings ruled Sri Lanka

but after 1948 it is not the case.

forget about presidency as he is directly elected by the people for the post.

what about PM post. PM is appointed by the party/predident in power. why there is no single PM a minority community. tamil/muslim at least in rotation. why cant give an opportunity to tamil/muslim as PM when president is sinhalese
