January 25, 1998: Four likely members of the Black Tiger squad drove an explosives-laden truck into the Sri Dalada Maligawa (or 'Temple of the Tooth'), a major Buddhist shrine, killing seven and injuring 25. The attack took place just days before foreign dignitaries were expected to attend celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of Sri Lankan independence at the temple
Disappearances and torture continue...
'TAMIL MP A Thangathurai told Parliament in early May that disappearances in Jaffna are continuing and called for urgent government action to end growing fear and uncertainty among the peninsula s population.
The fate of 656 people disappeared in Jaffna last year remains unknown. The Jaffna Organisation of the Parents of the Disappeared says in a petition to President Chandrika Kumaratunge in late May that there are witnesses to the arrests of the disappeared by the Army. Over 500 members of the organisation demonstrated before the Jaffna government secretariat on 12 May.
In mid-May a committee appointed by the Defence Ministry recorded evidence relating to 16 disappearances in Atchuvely. But people have little confidence in the enquiry and say the investigations should be by an independent committee headed by ajudge. A habeas corpus application before the Court of Appeal in May says Jaffna University student Sinniah Somaskanthan arrested in the peninsula on 12 August last year, has disappeared.
Continuing allegations of torture in custody in Jaffna alarm human rights agencies. Fisherman Thangavel Gunavel, 21, says in afundamental rights application to the Supreme Court that he was held at Anaikottai Army camp for 50 days and brutally tortured. His fingers were bandaged and set alight after pouring petrol over them. He alleges that blood was removed from his body on several occasions.' PeacemakerSri,
There is no way GOSL can defeat LTTE.
If GOSL got a solution why can't they apply now?
Why GOSL have to defeat LTTE to bring the solution?
If they want to bring the honest solution LTTE will fade
there is no need to fight. STOP KILLING TAMILS. |

However, we need to think as Sri Lankans to have long lasting peace.
Simple, man!
Just vacate Tamil homelands. Let Tamils be in charge of Tamils. Let Tamils build the schools, hospitals, airports, roads...and the most dynamic economy in South Asia! Let the diaspora pour in the $$$ billions!
That will be the only way for lasting peace! |

a thousand 83s will not match what the LTTE and the hate filled DieASSpora has done to the Sri lankans...So stop whining. No matter how you justify what you are doing to avenge the past atrocities,, we too will not forget or forgive and we too will justify with the same eloquence you use.
Remember, we are fighting for our motherland too and our resolve is as strong as yours and we too can raise the bar when it comes to cruelty or dirty games.
Whatever you do to us, we will do thousand fold back to you! Remember that my freind!
it is you who has sarted killing unarmed civilians. even before ltte was formed.
all these years we are giving back what we recieve in the same form. it will continue until you stop giving us.

You can hear the bell before seeing the marching elephant.
For the first time in two years, after Colombo launched its war, public and private sector employees in South have come to the open demanding higher wages from the government, despite Rajapaksa government's appeals to the public to back the military campaign. Ironically, the extreme nationalist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), which helped Mr. Rajapaksa into power and backed the military campaign, has come out openly to campaign for a salary increase of Rs. 5,000 per month and have threatened to launch a three day strike which comes in the backdrop of a one day token strike which had mixed results. |
