Akshe:

what is this 'red bird' operation? another dreaming attack from LTTE?

LTTE is too proud to just give up.

So, they will try one final time with full force. Read more in here.

Q: With Pillayan's appointment as Chief Minister of the Eastern Province has not the government effectively shown to the world that there is no longer a justification for a merged province or even a separate state, which covers both the north and east?

A: Pillayan is a leader of an undisciplined paramilitary group operating death squads for the Sri Lankan regime. Your question is, therefore, not at all credible.

Pillaiyan finished 100% of the operation but complained to the British FM that his PC has no police force or land administration.

Sareth Fonseka is yet to learn in some cases not only 1/3 but the vital 10% is harder and hence takes longer to 'finish'. Unless people have intelligence it takes even longer to experience.

No what is LTTE doing is waiting for SLA choke points to establish

there are lot of factors rolling in, and they hope to take advantage of those issues. the JVP-UNP govt destabilizing strike did not go well so LTTE had to rethink its operation

then came the peace overture - it is known for a long time that LTTE offers peace talks right before it launches a large strike against any govt asset, either political or military. This makes them look like they tried.

remember....when LTTE offered talks before katunayaka...and before EP fall...and before ...jayasikuru failure....the issues army felt at that time included a lot of problems equipment.fuel.corruption.manpower (had 72,000 overall with 1500 attack forces - they lost like 600 attack troops when they got annihilated in mankulam--it was well laid trap)

should not forget these, back then we did not have accurate air attacks, neither did we have immense firepower. having close to 160,000 troops in army ALONE and a navy that believes in blockade was not not present at that time.
plus we probably had aristocrat commanders who thought of saving their butt more than troops. Again now we have air burst rounds --these babies blow up in air and bring the rain down on enemy.

SF (note initials) a person who as a child faced Tamil extremism in the eastern districts. He is fighting this war with the same intensity as a special commando who came from a boarder village.

I appreciate that India is proving air cover for the saarc as well as about 2000 indirect troops.

Closing MSR... breather to TN will make LTTE Isolated.

But holding MSR not all easy without SLN.

UN found out Rajapakse' s Nazi govt does not even allow IDP Tamils rest under trees.
UN paints dismal picture

IDP's living under trees in the Wanni

Displaced people in the Wanni are left to seek shelter out in the open, under trees, the latest humanitarian update filed by the UN and other agencies said.

'According to field reports, displaced persons are sheltering under trees with limited access to basic facilities. UNHCR and UNICEF have distributed tarpaulin sheets to over 1,000 families so far, 'the Inter Agency Standing Committee (IASC) an umbrella organisation of UN and other humanitarian agencies said yesterday in the update referring to areas of the Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu and Mannar districts that are under the control of the Tigers. 'Supplementary food packs are being provided by DRC, World Vision and ZOA and two week's dry rations (rice and a small quantity of wheat flour) are provided by the GAs to newly displaced families,' it was also stated.

LTTE cant get eelam by force and probably get nothing at this rate

my concern is we are moving too fast north in to a well laid out trap

the Army should never forget that the goal of this operation is wait until LTTE gathers and then kill them, than capturing land and holding it with reserves.

perhaps this is the beginning of the end. but certainly not the end....lot of more fighting to do and and Vanni meat grinder just started.

The SLA soldiers help Karanu group recruit underage children.
During the debate both the Tamil Tigers and the Karuna Group were criticised for underage recruitment.

'In Sri Lanka, the Tamil Tigers and a Government-supported paramilitary group also continued to use child soldiers. While that group's initial release of 39 child soldiers was welcome, more must be done to ensure the release of the remaining children,' Zalmay Khalilzad representing the United States told the meeting.
