Hajara,
Please consider me a dunderhead and tell me what you mean by 'equal treatment'. Please let's not go back to 1956, 1983 and so on. Just how do you want SL to treat the tamil sri lankans?
Do you agree that bug stops at a country's constitution? The 1948 constitution was formulated with the consensus of all the stakeholders at the time to build a nation.
As it stands now, if a Sinhalese were to plant a Buddhist statue in front of the Jaffna Library for example, he has constitutional support to do so as it turned out in Trinco.
There must be constitutional safeguards for the minorities not just for the Tamils, that they can exercise their universal franchise without fear. In events of dispute or grievances, they can seek redresses.
I, as a Tamil, cannot take GOSL to courts on equal footing as a Sinhala Buddhist can do.
Moreover, Westminster style governance has been proved not workable for Sri Lanka, and the regions must be empowered to govern themselves.

What is the constitutional support you are talking about?
Any structure needs to get the approval from local authorities.

Pamela2,
The problem here is you want to have a solution in a single stroke for all the ills we have had .
No, I do not think that all ills would be solved at a single stroke. The Sinhala polity must reach a consensus as to a solution to start with. Then take steps to implement that sincerely. Once the Sinhalese manifest their sincerity, one would begin see the shift in the Tamil thinking!
You made the below statement:
I can not fathom your Love with Sinhala Buddhist Hegemony , what do you really mean by it
Then you wrote the following:
If everyone are to be equal, how about Buddhists should they get the equal no of resources available as Hindus . You can call it what ever you may like such as hegemony ,favoritism end of the day a Government should be able to implement changes . No one should try to appease minority at the expense of majority which is not ethical and practical .
You have answered yourself without realising. Ok, I will phrase it differently, under the guise of democracy, the Sinhala Buddhists have been exercising majorityism. No one is asking for appeasement, rather everyone in Sri Lanka needs to be equal. |

Peace,
Any structure needs to get the approval from local authorities.
Please remember what happened in Trinco not long ago. The local provisions had deemed the placement of the statue was illegal, but deemed legal constitutionally. No one could do anything about it. This is why I said that the bug stops at the constitution, and it is the fact. |

What are the benefits Sinhalese Buddhists enjoy in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka does not give any preference to Sinhalese Buddhists. (compare with Malaysia) |

The Supreme Court also ordered the Attorney General (AG) to withdraw a case seeking permission to destroy a newly erected Buddhist statue in Trincomalee.
The court said on Monday that the AG's department has no legal authority to bring such civil cases.
Chief Justice Sarath Silva ruled that the AG had no power to order the Urban Development Authority (UDA) to remove a controversial Buddhist statue.
The AG agreed to withdraw the case and recall the order issued to the UDA.
The Supreme Court made this ruling having considered a Fundamental Rights petition by Dehiovita Piyatissa thero.
The controversial Buddhist statue, erected by the three-wheel taxi drivers at a spot where there had been a small statue, led to unrest in the town as Tamil organisations started a Hartal.
The Chief Sanganayake of the North-East, Siyambalagaswewa Wimalasara told BBC Sandeshaya (BBC Sinhala) earlier that the misunderstanding led to protests but the Tamil people were not against Buddhists.
