Sri Lanka army has declared Iluppaikkadavai town liberated ending 21 years of terror rule of LTTE this afternoon (July 20). According to defence sources troops of Task Force 1 and Commando brigade encircled the remote town situated 12 km North of Vidattaltivu by last night and entered the town this morning.

What is your take on the eastern province. Is it any better than it used to be under Ltte jack boot
My honest answer is that I do not know! But one does need to be a rocket scientist to know that, a group that runs the region is allowed to comment any crime with impunity is not be talked up. You may say that it is just a starting point, but can you see an end in sight? I read somewhere Pullian is demanding for the implementation of the 13th amendment, and he is keen to negotiate with the foreign bodies in obtaining direct funds to develop the East. Can you see an end in sight?
cant we duplicate the same solution to the northern province . Well it wont be the final sollution but is it not a good start .
Who are you envisaging as a leader for the northern province? Is it going to Sangaree or Douglas?
The believe that, once the LTTE is neutralised, any token devolution would suffice while keeping intact the Sinhala Buddhist Hegemony is futile.
My take on the situation is that, The sinhalese must demonstrate their willingness to build a nation with the cooperation of the minorities. This should be done by constitutionally manifesting that, all sri Lankans are equal in true sense. GOSL must collectively with APRC formulate a genuine decentralisation of power to a degree that would make the Tamils and the LTTE raise their eyebrows. Only this, and nothing but would end the hostilities forever.
These shortsighted and half-cooked, previously discredited experiments would not work, and you can mark my word by keeping the events to follow as evidence!

So, according to the wishes of the mahanayaka theros, general fonserga is steadily on course to re-establish the Sinhala Buddhist hegemony throughout the island.
Whether he is or not only time will tell. But the paradox is that, many Sinhalese who hood and brand the Tamils as racists and terrorists etc, do not realise or recklessly ignorant to the fact that Sri Lanka cannot reemerge as to a nation of subjects on a Sinhala Buddhist platform. These Sinhalese do not realise that there is not much difference between the Tamils Nationalists and them.
One fact these guys needs to know that, torch of nationalism cannot be extinguished with another nationalism. This very fact would dawn on Sri Lanka in years to come unless of course the country were to move to the centre with a constitution that reflects the peoples of the nation and diversity.
There was no Sinhala Buddhist hegemony in the history of Sri Lanka. It has always been Buddhist & Hindu before the arrival of Arabs and westerners. Therefore no need re-establish a Sinhala Buddhist hegemony which never existed.
What we need to re-establish is the Sri Lankan nationalism which existed before the arrival of British.

By Thursday, that strategy appeared to have worked out. The reports from the Mannar front revealed that the Tiger cadres were deserting the Sea Tiger Base. But, the pull out appeared to have been pre-organized. According to senior military sources citing intelligence reports, the sea Tigers had moved boats to Pooneryn. A boat was found abandoned in the deserted sea Tiger base, which functioned as the main launching pad of the sea Tigers in the north western coast.
