Anecdotes from the Wanni

Assistant Government Agent of Thunukkai Division, Mullaitivu District, Nagalingam Nanthakumar was killed in a claymore mine explosion. The Tamil Tigers have lost the ability to fight as a conventional army after being weakened by recent government offensives, Army Chief Sarath Fonseka said earlier this month. The military is making progress toward eliminating the Tigers by mid-2009, he told reporters.

The war may have reached a stalemate, said Athas. Attacks are on the rise in all three ''cleared'' eastern districts, Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Amparai, and the Tamil Tigers have been ''periodically'' targeting the northern Jaffna peninsula, mostly under the government's control.

Athas knows better than Karuna of course! Sitting behind a PC with a mobile phone in hand, he obviously knows better....

The government forces are on the verge of defeating the Tamil Tigers, the former deputy commander of the LTTE said.

In an exclusive interview with BBC Sandeshaya, Vinayamurthi Muralitharan known as Karuna Amman said the Tamil Tigers are 'very weak' in the face of continuous military offensive.

'The LTTE are now only maintaining a defence line. They can't launch any offensive. They are very weak now,' col. Karuna said.

However, it will take some time for the military to defeat the LTTE.

'It will not happen in the next few months. We have to work together to win this war,' he told BBCSinhala.com.

IUCN, the world conservation body has decided to showcase Sri Lanka as a model to encourage greater private sector participation in integrating the environment into business practices. Vietnam, Bangladesh and India are a few of the countries expected to be treated with Sri Lankan success stories that IUCN are currently compiling.

Not only on this . When I say something I beleive correct most of the time it did not go wrong. If I have doubt I try to understand the facts/news based on my past experience and information from other sources.

you can remember that I believed puthinam news on capture of two sla bodies in vidathaltivu you doubted it as it is in tamil media . later defence.lk reported 2 sla was missing on that same attack.

today slaf bombed mullaitivu coastal areas. no one was injured or died. but boats of fishermen got destroyed and damged.

Mr. Fernando:

The war may have reached a stalemate, said Athas.

We do not need Athas to say this. You can see for yourself.
