Pakistan raises SAARC safety concerns

The Pakistani government has raised safety concerns over the 15th SAARC summit in Colombo early next month.
Islamabad has called for a detailed report on the arrangements for VVIP security at the regional meeting, a senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told 'Lanka Dissent.'
The media has reported that a 3,000-member strong Indian army contingent will arrive in Colombo to protect Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
A vast area of Colombo, including the Galle Face Green and luxury hotels in the city, will come under Indian troops' supervision during the August 2-3 meeting.
In view of such arrangements, Pakistan has expressed dissatisfaction over the safety measures in place for President Pervez Musharraf.
Now, uncertainty hangs over Mr. Musharraf's attendance at the SAARC summit, the Foreign Ministry official added. |
