Early Beginning of Tamil Nationalism

Primary contributor to the development of political awareness amongst Tamils was the intrusion of Protestant missionaries on a large scale from 1814.Missionary activities by missionaries of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, Methodists and Anglican churches led to a revival amongst Hindu Tamils. The Hindu(sivite) Tamil revivalist and reformist movement was led by Arumuga Navalar.
It was formed as a defensive response to the threat of indigenous order by the British colonial and missionary presence and their activities. Arumugam Navalar adapted literary endeavours to boost the Tamil Language and used this to spread Hindu sivite principles. Navalar s earlier efforts to revive Hinduism influenced Tamils who built their own schools, temples, societies and published literature to counter the missionary activities. Thus by 1925 nearly 50 schools, including the Vaddukkoddei Seminary were fully functioning . Furthermore, this revival moment set the stage for modern Tamil pros
The success of this effort led the Tamils to think confidently of themselves as a community and prepared the way for self consciousness as a cultural, religious and linguisitic community in the mid nineteenth century.For his efforts Arumugam Navalar was described, by Kailasapathy, as the person who gave his community a distinct identity

Sri Lankan history is also the history of Sinhalese/Tamils/Muslims.
The Sri Lankan nation was formed during king Pandukabaya. After the arrival of Buddhism a great civilisation was formed. It is considered as one of the best in the world by historians. This is a shared history of Sinhalese/Tamils and later Muslims
There was no Tamil nationalism at that time.
Sri Lanka was ruled by Sinhalese/Tamil kings. They were all Sri Lankans.
Tamil Nationalism against Sinhalese started in early twentieth century.
Tamil nationalism was promoted by Tamil Catholics in early part of 20th century. Tamil Catholic political leaders did not find common Sri Lankan history (Sinhalese Buddhist/Tamil Hindu) suited their religious biased agendas.
Mahawamsa bashing by GG Ponnambalam which resulted in riots is a good example.
What we need to understand?
It does not matter whether the ruler is Tamil or Sinhalese. What matters is whether he is Sri Lankan or not.
LTTE needs to give up Eelam & learn to co-exist with Sinhalese/Muslims as Tamils have done through out history. Sinhalese/Tamils/Muslims have a common future.
In this regard Karuna & Pillian are good examples to LTTE.

Why was Karuna packed to UK with a Fake PP by the Gosl in the first place if he has no issues with Pillayan?

Mr. Pillayan earlier told BBC Tamil service that he would offer the post to Karuna Amman, if he returns to the country.
