People will offer him that post as he has done great service to SL.

Do'nt be too sure of that .. People will not 'see' his past accomplishments, because he is standing against MR .. and MR is in 'front', blocking their view (of JP).

(JP, no doubt is a courageous military man .. but in going against MR, when he is conducting a success-ful campaign against the LTTE, he (JP) 'shows-up' as 'self-centred' .. and doing a dis-service (betrayal) to his former comrades-in-arms. He has 'asked' for it, and he may get his 'just desserts' .. 'packed-off' into ignominy & anonymity).
