I think that was a typical Politicians speech of capturing the hearts of Sinhala people..(may be for votes and money in pocket)

You know I am not a MR fan. But like most people, I do believe that the biggest problem for lasting peace in SL is the LTTE. They have eliminated all other Tamil Leaders that had views different to that of theirs or polarized the tamils to cast them off as traitors. They have for 30 years duped the tamils and looted their wealth for a promised land that can never be won by means of terrorists acts.

We are not the enemy of the Tamil people. It is the LTTE. Some of you guys realize it. Some of you guys do not want to admit it. Others are so mesmerized by the Terrorist activities and consumed by hatred towards the singhales, they don't care for EELAM anymore. They just want the LTTE to fight to the end and sink with the ship.

We have looked the other way and hoped that attitudes of the LTTE will change over time. Instead of that they took every opportunity to hood-wink all efforts for peace.

This Karuna Saga is hilarious.. :O)))

On Wednesday, July 02, 2008 .. ''Bottomline'' reports the following:

Karuna changes stripes again

Now vows to help LTTE regain east

Former TMVP Chief Karuna Amman has vowed to take revenge on his successor and Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillaiyan, after the sudden conversion of Pillaiyan from being a Karuna loyalist to become subservient to the UPFA.

Much angered by the unexpected change of Pillaiyan, Karuna, who had been detained by the British law enforcement authority in the United Kingdom over violation of the country's emigration regulations, has according to informed sources pledged to help the Wanni Tigers regain the east soon.

Top sources from the east, on the condition of anonymity told The Bottom Line that Karuna had vowed to help the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), gain control of the east soon.

Then on Thursday, July 03, 2008 .. The ''DailyMirror'' reports:

Karuna not likely to rejoin LTTE

The LTTE yesterday ruled out the possibility of any reconciliation with Karuna Amman and termed such reports as mere rumours.

The TMVP also ruled out that Karuna would rejoin the LTTE and said that his return to the country to rejoin the outfit was being awaited.

We are confident that Karuna will not join the LTTE as he has rejected the Tigers policies and leadership. If anyone thinks that a Karuna-LTTE alliance is in the making, then I have to tell them that it would be the biggest joke of the year, TMVP spokesperson Azad Maulana told the Daily Mirror.

The LTTE also maintained that the rumours were a mere joke and claimed that the Tigers would never accept Karuna back into the organisation.

Speaking about Karuna is a waste of time. We will never take him back. There are other more important issues which could be discussed other than such baseless reports, LTTE military spokesperson, Rasiah Illantheriyan said. He added that the LTTE did not need an alliance to regain the east and warned the LTTE would recapture the area soon.

Then today, July 04, 2008 .. The ''BBC'' reports:

LTTE is weak - Karuna

The government forces are on the verge of defeating the Tamil Tigers, the former deputy commander of the LTTE said.

In an exclusive interview with BBC Sandeshaya, Vinayamurthi Muralitharan known as Karuna Amman said the Tamil Tigers are very weak in the face of continuous military offensive.

Karuna Amman was deported from the UK, where he served a prison sentence for immigration offences, to Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

It was his first media interview since arriving in Colombo on Thursday.

He appealed to all communities, Sinhala, Muslim and Tamil, to help the government to defeat the LTTE which he described as a 'brutal terrorist group'.

Hilarious!!.. :O))))

According to some..

..Informed sources told this site that Karuna's return has come at a time when LTTE's current 'Special Commander' to the East, Keerthi and his band of Jeyanthan Brigade cadres are planning to create havoc in the Eastern Province.

The Karuna group, which broke into two groups, became one after Karuna's arrest and detention. After Pillayan became Chief Minister, it became virtually impossible for TMVP cadres to engage in open combat with the growing LTTE units in the East. It is believed that Karuna's return might remedy this situation as the 'Karuna' group starts operating under the former 'Colonel' while the political arm of the TMVP functions under Pillayan.

So then!!.. A standoff between Karuna and the Jeyanthan Brigade in the East possibly??.. Lets wait and see!!.. :O)))

'The LTTE are now only maintaining a defence line. They can't launch any offensive. They are very weak now,' col. Karuna said.

Good to see u..
let me get this right..Karuna was arrested for using a false PP which he claimed was given by Gota and in return Gota denied any knowledge of it..am I right so far..
He served his sentence in UK and now going back and he is talking about getting rid of Pillayan and joining the LTTE etc etc..
If Gota has denied involvement don't You think Karuna should be arrested on his return and the PP fraud should be investigated. is the LAW changed for Gota and karuna..for me if Karuna is not arrested then Gota was involved for sure..

I understand every word you have written but I still do not think WAR is the right Choice..I am not denying about ignoring LTTE and the time has come to fight them and getting rid of them etc etc..but we should also seek a Political solution while the WAR is on..People don't want to see the WAR to go on and on and young SL youth are killed without a actual end to it..

what i said was We have very smart intelligent people on both sides (Sinhalese/Tamils) if we all get together we can find a solution to this issue in no time..

The reason we find it hard is cos of LTTE and the Politicians..that is the SAD TRUTH
