Your interpretation of VP is wrong. You are talking about a man who is wearing a cyanide capsule. He is willing to die for Tamil Eelam. His only aim is Ealam. After TE is born, he will retire gracefully. There are plenty of Tamils capable of taking TE to the prominence it deserves.

According to the reliable sources coming from Colombo that there are nearly 39 soldiers have simply gave themselves to the Tigers and handed over their materials to save their young life.
By respecting their demands, Tigers have also shown a real humanitarian treatment to accept these sinhalese soldiers who did not want to get killed for nothing but , it seems that they have given some valuable informations on movements of troops to the tigers.
We should all appreciate Tigers' humanitarian treatment and if it were sinhalese they would have killed all the innocent civils even.
