With this move by the Security Forces, LTTE cadres operating in the Vedithalthivu Sea Tiger Base have started to vacate the area as they have been convinced that they cannot hold that ground further, intelligence reports indicated yesterday.
Damn, I thought they would lay siege and fight

we are used to these kind of news for the past 30 odd years. we know the ground reality and what is in the news for you guys to enjoy.
we better understand the ground reality because we have been living in war torn areas and we have better experience than you guys who think the war will be over in one year.

Prove me Prince Vijaya was a Sinhalaya and you are the descendant of him, I will stop posting in LNP.who gave the Sinhala tag to the mythical figure Vijaya. He wasn't even a Buddhist. Mahvamsa says, as soon as he landed, he went to pray the Lord Siva in Thiruketheesewarm.
Even the Sinhala fiction called Mahavamsa doesn't mention anything about Sinhalese. Not to mention that even Prince Vijaya never heard the name Sinhalese in his life. :))
Irrigation my foot, he cheated Kuveni, to get some food and got rid of her as a single mother with two kids. There I see some Sinhala characteristics, that's all. :)))

4SF BORN
The 37th Intake of the Sri Lanka Army's Elite Special Forces Brigade comprising 308 Special Forces soldiers (and two officers) passed-out at Maduru Oya yesterday in a gallant and action packed day of demonstrations of skill attended by high-ranking officers from the Special Forces and the family members of the men.
The large numbers being attracted to the Special Forces and the fresh influx of soldiers to the unit has moved the Military to form its 4th Special Forces Regiment. 4SF was formed and deployed recently at Maduru Oya comprising 2 Squadrons of 153 men each.
4SF will be a partial Regiment until the end of this year when around 400 more Special Forces are to join the unit. 600 men, including 10 Officers are currently undergoing training. 10 new officers from the SF joined the mother unit following last April's passing-out. |

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION AND DEMOCRACY IN SRI LANKA
The United Kingdom has strongly condemned the assault on one of their employees in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo. Political Officer of the British High Commission Mahendra Ratnaweera and Course Coordinator of the Sri Lanka Press Institute, Namal Perera were assaulted in Narahenpita.
Both were admitted to hospital following the attack by a group of unidentified assailants this evening (June 30th).
British High Commissioner in Colombo, Dr. Peter Hayes told journalists, after visiting the victims at hospital, that he condemned the despicable act, BBC Sandeshaya reported.
He expected authorities to properly investigate the incident.
Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, who also visited the victims at hospital, condemned the assaults, and said the police have already found the owners of the two vehicles used by the assailants.
Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, Sri Lanka Freedom Party Mahajana Wing leader Mangala Samaraweera, UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake were among other politicians who visited the victims.
Mr. Samaraweera alleged that harassment and intimidation of journalists have become official policy of the present regime.
Convener of the Free Media Movement Sunanda Deshapriya said the government should accept total responsibility if it failed to arrest those responsible for the assault.
