British foreign ministry and leading human rights organisations had condemned attacks on civilians in Sri Lanka.
In statement issued to the media, Foreign Office Minister Lord Malloch-Brown said, `There is an urgent need to end the senseless loss of lives caused by such acts of violence and for all parties to the conflict in Sri Lanka to take responsibility for the protection and safety of the civilian population`.
In a statement issued on Friday, Amnesty International blamed the Tamil Tigers for the recent attacks on civilians,`The authorities blamed the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) for the attacks. While no group has publicly admitted responsibility for the attacks, they bear the hallmarks of LTTE attacks`.
In their statement, prominent human rights organisation strongly condemns the activities of the rebels. `Amnesty International has repeatedly condemned abuses by the LTTE, including killings of civilians, hostage-taking, torture and other abuses, and has called for an end to such abuses and for those responsible to be brought to justice in conformity with international law`.

I thought the HR activists preferred to remain silent when the terrorists strike and kill civillians and be vociferous only when the Govt' strikes and kills civillians!
Seems the HR activists are no longer on the LTTE paylist! May be the LTTE is so weak that they no can no longer afford to have the HR activists on their pay lists. Aho! Dukaki mey sansaarey!

Read carefully. It is ONLY the AI that has named the LTTE and condemned it for the attacks on civilians.
No other HR organisation has been identified as blaming the LTTE or condemning it for attacks on civilians.
The British Foreign Office, while condemning 'attacks on civilians' urges 'all parties to the conflict to take responsibility for the protection and safety of the civilian population'.
So, it is still a LONG WAY from the HR organisations blaming and condemning the LTTE. Lets not make any mistake. |

Both GOSL & LTTE kill innocent people in north & south.
One is a decratically elected Government & other one is a terrorist, but both do the same job well!
Time to time AI & IC condemn LTTE & GOSL and look for their own business and then our fellows continue their job.

BBCSinhala.com distorts the AI news to do propaganda for the Sri Lankan government. The AI report says
'Amnesty International is calling on the Sri Lankan government to ensure that its security forces comply with Sri Lanka s obligations under international human rights and humanitarian law, and in particular to ensure that the civilian population are protected at all times'. but the Sinhala reporter employed at BBC Sinhala.com carefully chooses his headline to blame only the LTTE. |

They always voice against the HR violation. But, some of guy go blind and deaf when Govt. violate HR and shout at the institution highlights it!

Amnesty usually sympathyse with the Terrorist 99% of the time. It would make every attempt to blame a Government while ignoring the real criminals.
But this time they had to condemn because LTTE was soo clearly to blame. Perhaps AI is sensing the LTTE defeat and starting to cut losses. |

| Oh! I can't understand why they published a paper article of this nature. Usually they call the LTTE, freedom fighters. Eventually realisation. At least people of Sri Lanka can have a sigh of relief. |
