Lankan News Replies

The Government s Budget Carrier Mihin Lanka (Pvt. Ltd.), grounded for nearly two months for want of an aircraft, will commence operations in July with an A-320 aircraft obtained on a dry lease from a French Company. The monthly rent would be US $ 347,000, according to the company s former CEO Sajin de Vas Gunwardena.

Gunwardena resigned as CEO of Mihin Lanka on Thursday but told a news conference at the BMICH that he would continue to serve as a Director.

Asked to comment on the future of the airline, Gunawardena was not optimistic. `No doubt, its an uphill task. We will map out a joint commercial strategy with the national carrier Sri Lankan by pooling our resources and that should make it viable,` he said.

Gunawardena said that SriLankan and Mihin Air could exchange passengers on selected destinations that could result in the cabin factor increasing upto between 80 and 90 per cent.

He blamed the Sri Lankan-Emirates joint management for failing to cooperate with Mihin and trying to undermine it. `They were totally opposed to the advent of Mihin. When we asked for two of their aircraft on a wet lease they opposed it,` he said.

When operations recommence in July, they expect a monthly profit between Rs. 185 million and 190 million. While defending the Government s policy decision in launching the Mihin Air, Gunawardena faulted financial planning for its failure.

If GOSL or any one else has money to throw away that is a good idea.

CEO is not capable of accepting the Blame by the Management. Instead he is blaming everybody.

If he does not accept that they are wrong, they won't change and they won't grow up.

Here is Selvi, LTTE's spokesperson on Human Rights...

Velu was forced to send his spokesmen for Human Rights to achive never land Eelam..No doubt Velu is running out of caders to defend FDL's.

Looks like going get tough for him in Wanni.

My guess is, this is the same character that organised the brutal killings of 76 SLA Prisoners of war in 2006.

Not a bad qualification to be the HUMAN RIGHTS person of LTTE..

This is going to fail...The soaring oil prices has prompted Australian Carrier to shed 400 jobs...

GOSL should study the world market before embarking on a costly affair like this one.

It is time to cut cost, not waste hard earn money of Sri Lankans.

This is just a joke from ISLAND. They fooled this guy.

HOw he can talk about a non-existing airline. It is just a name.

GOSL can not have two Airlines and can not help one airline without discriminating the other.

Even SRi Lankan Airlines, GOSL should sell partly to Local ownership without GOSL running and owning it.
