A Muslim extremist organization this morning organized a hartal campaign in Kattankudi town against the Sri Lankan government for not appointing M.L.A.M Hizbullah as the chief minister of the Eastern Provincial Council.
Many shops and institutions were closed today in the hometown of Mr. Hizbullah, who had contested under the ruling United People s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) list in the recently concluded provincial council election.
Security has been beefed up in the city as there was speculation that the extremist group plans to attack the Sri Lanka Transport Board depot that provides public transportation services to the area.
After appointing the new chief minister yesterday, Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa made a special request to political leaders not to ignite racial violence for petty political gains.

It is funny that VP kills innocent civilians and expect whole world to respect his terror campaign.
As I have been telling Tamil people are generally stupid. |

What a rubbish for asking or dreaming for the post of Chief Minister .
Muslims are not in the war with sinahlese and we, Muslims should understand or we should get out from this province to live elsewhere.
I am also coming from the same religion but we should be reasonable when we demands our due rights.
Asking for a post of chief Minister for eastern Province should be dropped immedaitely.
afterall eastern Province is a tradition Homeland of Tamils, and we, Muslims communities are not tradition residents of this province because we used to live all over the island as petty sellers of garments and other items and we don't have any permanent place in sri Lanka like tamils. However, except some small Muslims communities living in this province have all the rights to live where they are living presently. But asking or demanding or doing any such foolish hartal for chief Minister can not be accepted.
We, Arabs are spice merchants during the 16th century and there are only two major communities of sri Lanka are Tamils in the north and northeast and sinhalese in the south and south east, south west.
We, Muslims have no any legal rights whatsoever to become Chief Minister of eastern province council but we can work together with the Tamil chief Minister to lookafter our social problems in the eastern Province.

Hmmmmmmm, temporary!
You guys are underestimating them.Always try to pass the buck and and wash off the hand.
Can't you see the pressure mounting against the Tamil community on the pretext of GOSL.Somebody has to do something before too late.
