Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has said that infighting between Hindu and Muslim Tamils over the Chief Ministership of the Eastern Provincial Council could deprive the East of its hard earned democracy.
Sri Lanka belongs to Tamils, Muslims and Sinhalese alike, Rajapaksa said after the swearing-in ceremony of the new Eastern Provincial Council Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan (Pillayan), of the rebel-LTTE Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pullikal (TMVP) on Friday evening.
`Do not think in terms of a Sinhalese, Tamil or Muslim leader, and lead the country to chaos. Let us think as Sri Lankans`, Rajapaksa said.
He asked the stakeholders to the Eastern Provincial Council (EPC) to refrain from any type of `animosity, jealousy and discord` to prevent the region from returning to the `difficult times` it witnessed before it was fully liberated from the LTTE in July last year.
The swearing in of Pillayan as Chief Minister put to rest the controversy over the contenders to the top post, which erupted after some Muslim leaders pressed for the appointment of dissident Sri Lankan Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader Hisbullah.
Both Pillayan and Hisbullah were seen hugging each other, after the decision to appoint Pillayan to the coveted seat was taken.
However, Hisbullah and two members of the new council announced they would stay as independent members and not be part of the United People`s Freedom Alliance coalition (UFPA), which is also the ruling coalition at the Centre.
Both Pillayan and Hisbullah had contested elections under the banner of UPFA during the recently held Eastern Provincial Council elections held on May 10.

Muslims have so many ministers and President has so many Muslims around.
Yet, Hisbulla can not control his emotions, and there is a reason.
The problem is in Sri Lanka, 'POLITICIAN' is the easiest job to get and the ANNUAL SALARY WITH ALL THE PERKS INCLUDED make it the best job in Sri Lanka.
ONLY QUALIFICATION is to be CUNNING, GREEDY TO THE EXTENT to use innocent people of Sri Lanka. |

Eastern province belongs to Tamils first and later Muslims if there are but not sinhalese who have been brought by Mr.Mahinda to occupy the legal lands of Tamils
under this ethnic war to sigalisation of Tamils Homelands
we respect Muslims but if they wish they have all the rights to live with Tamils but any legal demands from Tamils can not be accepted since this both provinces( North,Northwest and Northeast are traditional homelands of Tamils.
Still he doesn't fully understand about Mr.VP
and hope sinhalese governments will understand only throuhg LTTE force but not by any peaceful discussions. |

when people are too keen to be politicians there should be something wrong in the system.
Because, how many of those keen politicians are really serving people ?
It is easy for corrupt people to get into people. Politicians send their children to politics.
NO one is trying to correct it.
Fortunately, We know RanilW does not have progeny.
So, thank GOD. something good. |

| Minority citizens have been very poor at management and liable to religious divisions among themselves. Therefore majority citizens should rule for racial harmony and for the unity of the country.I am only talking about Sri Lankan citizens here and not Tamil Terrorists who are aliens to Sri Lanka who could not adopt civilization but struggling for self destruction and isolation...:-) |

This is how India wanted Sri Lanka to be.
IN India, every day, some one blow up or something blow up in the name of a certain fake struggle.
So, Sri Lanka is bit better.
IT is RACIST POLITICS AND RELIGIOUS - EXTREMIST POLITICS. |

If East is destabilized again all Muslims big guys would move to Colombo leaving ordinary people to take the heat. I am sure Hisbullah would do the same and even ask the govt to provide protection.

Small correction:
We respects Muslims have been living in the eastern province . However, their demands for any chief Minister can not be accepted by Tamils.
There were no sinbhalese in the eastern province except some sinhala traders scattered here and there near Eastern Province. All new illegal sinhalese immigrants should be removed to pave the way for tamils and Muslims to live peacefully.
It is out of question any JVP culprits in this area.
Mr.VP will not accept and Mahind should understand. |
