Horrible, evil, design. No one seems to care for these poor people who are caught up in this one of the biggest man made messes in the world.
Although bombing civilian targets have been a practice in civil wars, the above reason dictates that bombing and shelling civilian targets whether in the south or the north will not bring either party closer to a solution as civilian death and suffering is no deterrent to GOSL or LTTE. This only hardens both communities and fuel the war effort. In other countries it puts pressure towards a settlement.

LTTE aircraft disappeared from the RADAR screen when SLAF bombed IRanamadu - Daily Mirror.
An LTTE air craft was detected by the air defence system yesterday evening over the LTTE built Iranamadu runway, military sources said.
A senior Air Force official told the Daily Mirror that the air defence system had detected the LTTE aircraft soon after, it was airborne. However it immediately disappeared from the radar system, as it went down, the official said. |

LTTE killed Police Officers assigned to give security to Pillayen.
Officers killed were deployed to provide security to Pillayan : UNP
Fuelling another controversy, the UNP said that the police officers killed in the suicide attack yesterday, were those deployed to provide security to TMVP leader Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan who was to be appointed as the chief minister yesterday.
Issuing a statement, the UNP said that these police officials were providing security to Mr. Pillayan who was staying at a hotel in Colombo. The main opposition said that police officials get killed in the East continuously in a tragic irony.
Two police officials were killed at the Ariampathi junction in Batticaloa recently. Today, another one was gunned down in Kattankudi. The UNP never approves violence and terrorism. We again remind those concerned that problems cannot be resolved through violence, hatred and terrorism, the statement says.
The UNP expressed its condolence to the family members and relatives of those killed in the bomb attack yesterday. |

| There was no dog fight to shoot down a plane. I know very little about planes or radar but shouldn't the plane be in the air for it to appear on radar? |

dog fights ?
IT appeared on the RADAR and then during bombing it disappeared from RADAR. May be because of an Indian Missile. |
