Nineteen Indian Tamil fishermen, including two 15-year-old boys, arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy in the Historical Waters of Palk Strait last Friday were blindfolded, attacked and interrogated by the SLN for 5-days and handed over to the Police and brought to Mannaar Magistrate`s Courts Thursday. T.J. Prabahkaran, the magistrate, allowed the Police application to remand the fishermen into police custody for 7 days, legal sources said.

The fishermen who hail from Maanthoappuththe`ru, Thangkachchimadam in Ramesvaram district of Tamil Nadu said they were arrested by the SLN from 4 fishing boats, blindfolded and taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation by the SLN.

Sri Lankan Police said that the Indian fishermen were arrested between Kachchatheevu and the Sri Lankan coast.

This is total bulls**t.

LTTE is attacking Tamil fishermen, disguised as Navy to provoke TamilNadu.

But with the very tight security cordon by Navy patrol craft in that region, predominantly to prevent arms smuggling, how does the LTTE manage to masquarade as the SLN and attack fishermen?

This is an unfortunate incident.
Indian fishermen must take a special care not to enter into SL water as SLN is having a deadly hard time with sea tigers there.

The possibility is high that SLN got them as suspected sea tigers. Its good no person was killed or injured and they all are now safe in Mannar.

People cant expect very smooth and welcoming treatments in a war zone like area.

I hope GOSL send these men back to India soon, with their boats.

Anti Tamil riots of 1956, 58, 65, 77, 82, bombing of Tamil areas, temples and schools and killing of NGOs and aid workers and Tamil youths are 'unfortunate' whereas killing by LTTE is 'terrorism'.

I don't think SLN has done this type of treatment to Indian fishermen. This may be a story fabricated by LTTE to discredit SL military forces.

Sansare,
You will accept that there is no boundary wall in the mid of sea. It is common thing fishermen of one country enter into other's territory, as SL fishermen entered into Indian water several time.

There are systems they have to know locations, traditional or high-tech. Anyway, according to news, its not just few 100 meters, its some good distance into SL water.

According to war situation, Indian boats are facing higher risk in SL north water, than SL boats in Indian water.
